New Here... Hopefully you'll read this!

PetrucciVaiZappaAbassi Sounds like a mutant clone super guitar player!! The axe if made to fit any style of guitar. It will take a little while to get a sound that you like but once you do, its awesome!

Man, I wanna play like PetrucciVaiZappaAbassi...

Hello brethren! I have a couple questions regarding my foot controller...

Question1:I have a rocktron midi raider for my axe fx2. Can I have multiple bank types? For instance, On bank 1 can I have ONE preset and 14 IA's, then on bank 2 have FIVE presets and 10 IA's? Or do I simply commit the board to one bank style?
Maybe this is where Scenes come in for me... Ideas?

Question2: I am modding an old Cry Baby for expression tonight and have two EB VP JR.s. since the Raider has TWO expression jacks, should I do Axe Wah and a modulation then simply have a volume pedal between my guitar and axe input OR go VOL from the back of the Axe unit?

Welcome Keith

You are going to go bunkers (in a positive way) over the Axe Fx II for both your acoustic and electric tones.
My advice for a crash induction to a gig ready Axe II for acoustic gigs is very much along what others have said already

1. Start simple with a simple grid with comp, eq, perhaps the tube preamp sim and reverb to find your core acoustic sound. Then expand with more effects to fit your needs.
2. Better to start with a few great sounding patches with ia's for special effects, than to try to make a bunch of highly specialised patches in a rush.
2. Make your patches at gig volume to get the eq right (Fletcher-Munson curve) and to have the presets correctly level matched between them
3. Either be sure you know where to find the global eq or have an external eq inserted in the efx loop - with efx loop block on the grid and not bypassed - so you can adjust on the fly during the gig if needed.
4. Make sure that your midi board set up is good and that you are familiar with it.
5. Rock out

With your experience I think you have a definite chance of having a fully gig ready system in a few days as long as you apply yourself (I watch to much Breaking Bad) and go by the KISS principle.
Good luck and ask any questions you might have along the way.

Heya,

I just successfully converted an old Wah into an expression by watching this vid!
Strymon Tech Corner #2 - Build your own expression pedal - YouTube

It works with the 100k pot just fine, however the sweep is backwards! toe pos. is min, heel pos. is max. i tried re-soldering and switching the wires but that didnt work. Toe AND Heel were both 0% and mid sweep was 50%

I (simply) want a typical wah for my axe2

any takers?

Thank you guys so much! Believe it or not, my axe2 isnt even here yet and my Midi Raider is already set up pretty much. I am fully confident that Ill have my base sound within a few hours of tinkering. The only problem i foresee is getting caught up in tones, amp blocks, and block order to the point where i lose sight on my weekend goal! gonna have to have the will of a recovering addict to get thru day/night #1.

Who am I kidding, day #2 is gone too!!

Just reverse the sweep values in your controller settings for your wah by flipping the 0 and 100% values at "start" and "end", that way you reverse the sweep of your controller.
If you don't know what I mean, just watch this video blog from Chris as he shows how to change sweeps in the controller settings and more

That's why I'd advice you to adhere to the KISS principle at least in round 1.

Perhaps base your first presets around the same template, so you always know what you have and where it is in your signal chain.
I took some screen shots of a basic template but for some reason I can't get them to upload to this post.
You could make a grid like this:
input - wah - comp - parametric eq 1 - amp 1 (tube pre amp) - graphic eq or the efx loop block with your own external eq inserted - trem - parametric eq 2 (for mid boost) - filter 1 (for volume boost, null filter and up the gain db) - split the signal i 3 rows for paralleled chorus, reverb and delay - perhaps sum the 3 rows back to one and insert a multi band compressor if you are used to using one, otherwise just parallel the 3 rows to output - output

Experiment with the tube pre amp sim vs just an eq and see what you like best with your guitars and for the sounds you are going for.

Stellar idea. Thank you! My axe2 came UPS today around 2pm. I've been in my studio ever since (930 now!). So far I have the general feel of the navigation and because of you guys, I have a pretty good idea how to set it up. With the acoustic I've been having better luck with the cab and amps bypassed. Simple eq and Comp is killing it so far. I thought I Might have to DI my signal but so far my tone is amazing!
The midi raider is putting up a fight a bit tho. I'll dial it in after the honeymoon is over with my new AxeWife... Which might take a minute!

Thanks again friends...

Well I have come up for air! My acoustic setup has taken a detour Away from the AxeFX for the time being but holy shit has my electric setup grown! The whole rig now is axe2, MFC-markIII, Matrix 800, Egnater 212x, and 3 EB vp jr... I'm going to order a pair of XITONE wedges to flank the Egnater in March.
So far my overwhelming preference is to have two amp blocks just about every patch with power sims on and panned 75/25. For the heavier tones I've been using FAS modern-left and Mesa Classic-right and for the cleAn sounds I've been doing a Hiwatt bridged-left and classic 30-right.
Getting organized and saving usable presets has been tough lately simply because I can't stop jamming on sounds and I lose studio time to simple fascination!
I am almost done with the mobility of my rig and it's looking amazing! 6u rack with the expressions and MFC in the case lids for transport. Not sure how heavy the whole setup will be when finished but I'm also getting a foldable hand truck anyways...
A couple thoughts. My sennheiser wireless sucks ALL of the tone outta this thing. Doesn't do the same w my Marshalls. Grrrr.
I've just begun getting into XY possibilities and would love to hear how people are using XY w scenes..

Hope 2014 is killing it for you guys. Go SEAHAWKS!
