Already called it at $399. Yes Fractal is king of the hill, but this is not a very powerful unit with limited functionality, so I doubt they'd be asking $600 or something ridiculous.
(Unless they want to commit brand suicide like Kemper and their new, pay2play model, sell this basic thing for cheap, then gouge everyone to unbrick it by purchasing the full featured firmware for more money, no way Fractal would do us like that, right?)

$399 and they'll sell a million of em.
Good luck.

At ~$700, that's the price of a used FM3. I can't see much of a reason to pick the VP4 over the FM3. Hope to be surprised when it releases though!
Because fm3 is not reported to work well in 4cm. Well.. it works ok, but from what I read, the fx8 (and fm9) are transparent in 4cm. So that’s one of the main reasons I would get this.

People are so stuck in modeler mode, they can’t think about how a product works with real tube amps.

(FM3 was not designed with 4cm/real amp in mind)

No chance this is $399

There is some truth to that. It has taken me and Fractals modelers a decade to get me into the ecosystem. With my tube amps I still love my dedicated pedals. I can honestly say a modeller pedal like fractal has now seems hard to wrap my head around, usefulness to me, that said I love my c4 synth and spectrum and BigSky all of which are just chip driven pedals. I can say I am on the fence and price will make a huge difference for me. I want a dark sky but I don’t want that price so this will probably fall into the same boat. I just don’t know how I would use it yet. Vids from others who jump in will help me wrap my head around it. I do think having extra effects in a loop with my axe could be fun. Or with my Synths!

And? It has scenes...

And most likely each switch has Tap and Hold.

And 4 blocks with 4 switches allows direct access.
The fact that this unit probably isn't the right one for me aside, the switching on these things (Fractal units in general) is so brilliant, I actually giggle a little when I think about it.

The pedals I was going to buy (for the same board) before I found out about the VP4-

Boss SDE-3000 - $399.99
TC Electronics 2290p - $349.00
Belle Epoch Deluxe -$359.00
Eventide H9 - $599.00
Some kind of Reverb - $200+
Boss CS-2 - $130 +/-
Some kind of chorus - $200

I already have specific dirt pedals I want to use with certain amps, plus the Whammy and wah. In this context, the VP4 is FAR from limited. I don’t want/need it to be an “all in one” thing, I already have an FM9, I don’t want another one. It’s too big to use with the dirt pedals I want for their specific sounds that I can’t dial in on the FM9/AxeFX and the FM3 will not run the kind of chains I want to run with the VP4.

And for my chugga chugga metal live rig where I don’t use a lot of effects and want it simple, the VP4 + Expression pedal can cover everything I’d need, being the smallest pedalboard I’ve ever owned.

I dunno if people spend too much time in the modeling world and forget there’s still plenty of guitarists out there using amps and pedals. The majority of modeling I see in Ft Lauderdale is from touring acts coming through. Locally, amps and pedals still dominate the live music scene. More than that, non-gigging guys are bigger gear whores than gigging guys, who tend to keep things practical.

Not that Fractal has ever slouched in this regard, but it seems a dedicated FX unit will only increase the rate of advancement in the Fractal FX realm. Very excited for how this might lead to faster block improvements for the FM9.
