The thing I most look forward to is how with every new platform FAS comes up with - the final feature set before it's "retirement" always goes through and evolves to be so much more! So - hope springs whatever or something....

I currently use a Samson rack mixer, but I am thinking about replacing it with the RJM because it is smaller and simpler. I could do the same thing with less hassle.

I basically have 1 preset with pitch detune, delay, reverb, and chorus all in parallel. I select different combos of these in different scenes. This is ran in parallel with the mixer, which sits between my tube preamp and poweramp. I like this because I can just mix a little digital effect on top of my analog tone.
 
Hopefully Fractal is making us wait because they plan to ship upon purchase. I am going to be pretty let down if this announcement is a waitlist…

I am a big fan of physical knobs and sliders as well.

Essentially this is like performance pages though and not a substitute for a full on-device UI.

I think there is still plenty of room for improvement (innovation) of effects and control and I think that all this on-device UI limits what can be done with AxeEdit.

Here's a new idea in this space: AxeFx is a rack mounted device that is just a black box (well, some Leds and meters, but no screen). Then you have a UI device that has a bluetooth connection to the axe. The device could be a 12" touchscreen. It would have a black case with a Fractal logo, but when you tear it down, it turns out to be an iPad that is setup to only run AxeEdit. /joke

Very cool. I'm currently using a Musicomb Parallelizer that has individual wet knobs for each of its 3 stereo inputs. I like Detune cranked up way higher than Reverb for example. With the RJM it appears to have a single global mix knob. It never occurred to me use presets/scenes to control FX output levels. Interesting. I need to try that.

The Samson I use has all kinds of volume, and pan controls and such, but I just try to keep everything at noon and control at the processor. I actually have a big rack of TC Electronic, Lexicon, Rocktron, etc... units that are all hooked up on different mixer channels. I just like to switch around for fun, so they are all kind of set up to do similar things. I keep thinking about simplifying the mixer just because less circuitry, less knobs, etc....

In my Axe II preset, I actually have those 4 effects in parallel, and right after that I use a mixer block. I use the mixer to control the volume of each row on the grid. I keep all the effects at 0db, and then use the mixer to dial in how strong I want each effect in each scene.

The Parallelizer looks like a great unit, but I am more set and forget on mixers, so I dont need all the switching and level knobs. I have also considered the Suhr Mini Line Mixer, but it isn't stereo, and the Red Seven Stereo Mini Line Mixer. Just because those are simple with set 50% mix ratios.

I would imagine that manufacturers are constantly having to cull features that would simply be too difficult to make work in the on-device UI.

For example, control curves would be way more useful if I could simply draw the curve myself. In AxeEdit, it would be easy to add that functionality, but it would be obviously a huge PITA to make that work on the on-device UI. Instead, we have the "tyranny" of the lowest common denominator (the on-device UI) dictating what the SW interface can do and how it works/looks.

I think i would pay money to have a weekly segment of Cliff going through some of the gems on the forum and reacting to them. That would be some quality entertainment.
