Need help deciding on asking price for a Suhr Modern Pro I want to sell

Hey everyone, I have a very nice guitar that gives me a big challenge in coming up with an asking price for.

The challenge comes from the contradictory facts that it's 9 years old, but has spent those 9 years essentially in its hardshell case. I might have played it for a total of 3 hours during those 9 years. It's beyond mint, showroom condition. But it's still 9 years old!

How does one go about putting a price on it? Any suggestions?

If it matters, it's a Suhr Modern Pro in chili red, and I paid cdn$4600 at the time.

And if you're wondering, I never played it because at the time all my fractal tones had been carefully crafted specifically for my other guitar (Tom Anderson Drop Top), we were recording for the longest time, and I was just too busy to dedicate the same amount of love and effort to the new guitar. Time moved on, life happened, and I just didn't want to risk any dings or blemishes on the Suhr. Here I am 9 years later needing cash...

Just did a quick search on Reverb and there's one that was listed a couple months ago for 2700. I'd say price it at least a few hundred lower than that one if you want to sell it quickly.

If it as you describe it is mint. Might be able to get $2750 for it if you can give it a couple weeks. Have you looked on Reverb? It’s worth more for sure, but a quick sale needs a low price. List higher and drop if reasonable offers don’t come in right away. Best luck!

Thanks guys! Is Reverb the place to sell these days? (other than Kijiji or marketplace for local buyers)?

Depends on if you want to deal with everything reverb involves. I’ve had good luck with kijiji for the most part and a bit of fb marketplace.

Fact is most prospective buyers for that guitar wont care that it sat in the case - it will be perceived as a dud “why didnt he play it more?” or someone looking for that specific model and colour will see it as a deal.

Its a buyers market right now. Look at what current modern pros are listed for in canada (consignment and privately) and how long they have been posted for. Imo you’re looking at under 4k if you want to get cash. $600 over 9 years is not the worst rental fee.

Theres one on kijiji for $3500cad to give you an idea.

The age in this case makes no difference. It is not like the model has really changed for the better or really at all in this time.
As a buyer, im gonna want the newer one over the older one or vice versa if im seeing owners talk about which ones they have enjoyed more. Perceived value will still change a price :)

Except the spec hasn’t changed on this. I agree on custom models or different specs.

Definitely go by completed prices, not listed prices. There's been a trend in recent years to list things for ridiculously high prices, and hope for the best.
