Need advice on second hand Fender Strat Plus -> Finally it is a Suhr

Piing

Axe-Master
It look interesting, but the seller is in another province at 600 km from Bangkok. So, no chance to try it

1988 Fender Strat Plus Razberry for $1,200

What is your opinion from the pictures?

The seller is a locally known guitarist. He seems reputable.

Would you grab it?

Although the Razz Berry is pretty rare, I think the guitar is overpriced in this condition. Also it looks like once upon a time a string guide was installed (not-done for a strat plus) and later removed. Also from the pictures I would not conclude the color to be Razz Berry (maybe Fiesta Red).

They do play fantastic, but I would wait for one in a better condition.

For way more information about the strat plus than anyone can handle see the website of xhefri: http://xhefriguitars.com/page2.html

Pickguard and wiring all non original. No collector value because of the beater condition and non original parts . As a guitar if it plays and sounds nice is good for $1k. The only collectable ones of these need to be 100% original and 9.5 condition.

I like the Plus series for Tele and Strat as I like Lace Sensor pickups. Too bad Fender stopped making them. The sales of Tele Plus guitars to Radiohead fanboys alone should bring in a nice amount.

Why is the headstock lighter where the stickers go? I might be paranoid, but that’s a red flag. I can understand around the nut, since it doesn’t look original, but not the fender logo. Aged clear coat can’t be matched without it being noticeable. IDK

Not in poly,I could do it in nitro.

The string wraps on locking tuners is making my eye twitch.

Agree on the color. Looks more like Fiesta Red. Razzberry is a bit more pink or magenta looking, but camera white balance does funky thinks so it's hard to say without seeing it in person in natural light.

The seller is quite cryptic replying and doesn't anwser all questions. It is probably a Google Translate issue, since I cannot write in Thai. I will abort the operation.

In the meantime, do you think that $2,100 is a good price for this Suhr Modern Satin? (also in another province. I cannot try it)

They are selling around $3,000 at Reverb. However, I am confused by this shop selling it new for $1,999. Says list price $2,858.

Is that an inferior model? I only see one model at the Suhr website, with options on Natural Satin or Black Satin, and 510 or Floyd

https://www.suhr.com/product-archive/archived-instruments/modern-satin/

And the Suhr website says Street Price $2,699 (it is weird that they sell them more expensive at Reverb)

I've seen Suhr Modern Satin guitars as low as $1700US...

I like the natural ones. I think they're less because there's not as much finish work.

It seems the one you showed might have a bit of a blemish?

Yes they were a budget model but very good. $2K is on the high side of right but not unreasonable. I think the mark on the bottom is a strange shadow caused by the side of the case but if you are unsure you could ask for a pic of this part out of the case.
