MIDI question

Ok so I am here at home with the Axe FX currently in the FX loop of my amp basically working as an FX processor. My amp is MIDI compatible, i.e. I can change channels and other settings on my amp via MIDI. I am trying to make different presets for the different channels on my amp (clean, crunch, distorted etc...) but can't work out how to make it so that when I change presets on the Axe via the Axe EDIT software it sends a MIDI message to my amp to change to the corresponding amp settings for that preset. I have connected a MIDI cable from the MIDI out on the Axe to the MIDI in of my amp and was hoping that it would automatically trasmit MIDI data but that doesn't seem to be the case. Can this be done without the foot controller?

You need to generate the MIDI command from a MIDI controller (either a foot controller or from your computer). The Axe-fx and Axe-edit to not generate the needed commands.
