MIDI Expression Pedal that can change which CC# it sends

Hi everyone,

Like many, a common struggle is trying to figure out how to use one expression pedal for multiple blocks independent of scenes. I was thinking a good way to do this would be to have a MIDI expression pedal where you can change what CC# it sends via a foot switch. Then you can map those different CC#s to the external controllers.

For example:
Wah block is set to respond to External 1, which is set to CC1
Volume block is set to respond to External 2, which is set to CC2
Pitch block is set to respond to External 3, which is set to CC3

I currently have a MIDI Baby 3 by Disaster Area as an external 3 button Midi Controller. It can accept an expression pedal and you can choose which CC# that expression pedal sends. But you can't change the CC# in real time. It would be great if I could just hit one of the foot switches on the MIDI baby to change it.

Is there a MIDI controller that can do something like that?

Something like that could be accomplished with the custom uno2 firmware for the B**er FCB1010 foot controller. But that would include to add a large FCB1010 to your setup. Or you could try to find one of the older LG2 boxes: https://www.gordius.be/

No I’m not commercially affiliated :)

Actually, I think this is possible on the AudioFront Expression IO.

It's a small but fairly powerful midi controller which has 4 TRS jacks for expression pedals and/or switches.

You could potentially connect a switch or 2 and an expression pedal.

Use the switches to trigger changing which CC is sent.

@Joe Bfstplk - did you ever mess with that?

I haven't but seem to recall clues in the manual that made me think it might work.

Responding to myself, but page 21 of the manual indicates this is possible:

MIDI Transformer
The MIDI Transformer is a MIDI effect that lets you dynamically manipulate MIDI messages passing through your device in real-time. A typical application might be to allow a single expression pedal to control multiple parameters by changing its MIDI channel or CC using a sustain or a footswitch.

Nope. Just CC pedals and switches, a couple of which had their transfer functions subtly s-shaped to make a couple of the pedals find middle more easily, before it was moved over to 100% switches.

Some of the stuff in the manual looked interesting, tho....

Yes, the MX Midi Foot controller can do this with the commands "Exp 1 CC Swap", "Exp 2 CC Swap" and "Exp 3 CC Swap".

Besides that the MX is also capable to fully sync with the Fractal III, FM3, FM9. Syncing Preset Name, Scene Name, Active Scene, Block FX On/Off Status, Block FX Selected Channel, Looper, Tuner info, Tap Tempo, .....

Check this video which shows exactly what you want to achieve
