I dunno, to me the ability to load tracks into the unit to always have with me and then easily drag and drop scene changes onto them sounds like a pretty cool feature, same with a stem splitter. I think it’s good that somone is thinking outside of the same old paradigm we’ve had in these products for 20 years. The technology is there to go push past a device aimed only to replace analog amps and pedals, it’s time to put it to use.

Remember at one time putting a camera in a phone was ridiculed.

To each his own. I would choose a Mac with plugins before I would trust a newly released and unvetted automation device and software that I step on.

I don't believe this is an equivalent to the pocket camera. Time will tell. I was an early adopter of the iPhone, and the family pictures I took at that time are unfortunately the victims....

Since there are no real products that do backing tracks which you can call “best in class” currently, it’s super easy to take that spot.

Same goes for guitar processors capable of controlling outboard gear via midi.

Speaking of unfocused, core capability is already there. These things are just typically unfinished half baked stuff.

Take Fractals setlist/song feature. The way it is currently implemented is bad and a waste of bytes. But it is there. So just finish it. Add ability to send out midi on song/song part select. Send/set tempo. Maybe run a midi track. Now it’s a very functional thing, easy to implement. Don’t limit the number of song parts by 6 - this doesn’t make any sense. Have storage? Add audio playback. Now you have a best in class backing track player with control for lights or whatever you can imagine with very little development effort.

Because an umpteenth improvement of reverb tail algorithm isn’t focus, imo, it’s just a solution in search of a problem (and probably a more fun task to do then boring midi stuff for developers), it’s just hard to see any practical purpose there. Not a single user ever complained that reverbs aren’t good enough in Fractal products (in fact, most are happy even with NDSP and Helix ones, and don’t really see the difference), but we get constant updates. Is this really focus? I don’t think so. That’s how I procrastinate, in fact.

I have that too. The point is I don’t want a bunch of stuff all the time.

Sure but as anything, the tech improved.

I own a lot of very nice camera gear but still use my phone camera multiple times every day, this can be the same equivalent. More power elsewhere if you need it, good enough for most people if you don’t.

For dedicated backing track devices there is the B.Beat M-live line and the Idoru P-1. I think that's it.
 
To the contrary, the MBP is the standard that you will see on stages everywhere. I am also a decades long IT tech/security wonk/programmer who has automated many systems. So my frame of reference will be skewed compared to other guitarists.
