Kemper Player is out, so pretty much all the competition now has a mini 3 button product… still no Fractal FM3 Lite???

I think the form factor of the FM3 is quite compact for the quality you get. First, the power supply is an IEC cable, rather than a brick and barrel like the one for the HX Stomp. Second, how do the "minis" compare with the quality of the FM3's amps, cabs and effects? I suspect they are good but not nearly as good.

Those others sound great, but the Fractal stuff is next level. We all know that.

If FAS released a stripped down mini unit with:

  • 5 or 6 classic/must have amps
  • 5 or 6 classic/must have effects
  • 5 or 6 classic/must have cab/IR’s
  • OR with less available blocks to keep memory/DSP down

…they would utterly slaughter the competition and make a metric buttload of cash.

Assuming there is still full access to the Fractal suite (maybe you can just take a few of your favorite amps/cabs to go) a smaller device would be cool. I would defiantly not want a device that has only a few amps/cabs baked in.

How many years did Fractal only offer the rack mount Axe Fx Standard/Ultra/II while others had floor units? I think they did quite well if memory serves.

I believe there was something said about the FM3 being the smallest form factor they could go to at the time without compromising quality or functionality. Something I doubt Cliff would ever consider is compromising any part of his design to appeal to any portion of the market.

If it was up to me, I'd provide (1) amp+cab modelling and (2) effects in separate pedalboard-friendly devices. By equipping both devices with digital I/O, latency would not increase when using both devices.
Nice one going modular👍. That could even work with a fc6 or 12 combo and form-factored as 2HE 19 inch Half rack enclosures. 🤓

The recent wave of digital "amp only" boxes like ToneX, UAFX, Kemper now etc has made me realise that if I ever wanted some solution like this for a pedalboard then the FM3 is the way to go. Less cables, No need for other pedals (unless they do a specialised job) and just infinitely easier.

I was going to lump in analog preamp pedals into this modern wave of amp pedals but at least I can see why an all analog path would excite people. The only reason this kemper pedal makes sense to me is if I was in a band and did all the tone captures on my Kemper and then a band mate didnt want the full boar solution, you could get one of these to fill the gap.... pretty small use case but horses for courses I guess

I think the FM3 is good as is. The only improvement would be if they added a 4th button for bees.

I've never gotten the sense that Fractal cares much about what the completion is doing. I've always gotten the sense that Cliff wants to write code, play with cool gear, and have a good quality of life. As a business owner, if you fall into the trap of trying to 'keep with the Jones' you end up looking for investors or trying to go public and then you are stuck trying to make everyone but yourself happy.
