Is the Axe-Fx alone with this grid routing scheme?

I'm using Cubase 5 as my DAW and since getting the Axe I have been bumming out that Cubase doesn't have an Axe-like fx grid for VST effects. In the Axe it's possible to build complex fx chains with an ease that completely eludes me in any other application I'm familiar with.

So, is there any solution out there that would enable me to build fx chains in a grid, like in the Axe, per track? I'm primarily looking for a VST solution here of course.

If not, would that be a possible foray of Fractal's into the VST fx world? Just sell a VST effect that allows you to route all your existing effects as you would in the Axe. If it is possible to implement technically (IDK), they probably have a lot of the necessary code already with the Editor / seemingly vaporware Axe-VST.

I would buy it just for that functionality, and I'm sure others would too once they realized the potential. It wouldn't even require horrific copy pretection as piracy wouldn't compromise their core business. Hell, I wouldn't even mind if it were free! (With a friendly-but-prominent suggestion to buy an Axe-fx incorporated in the interface...)

I have seen VST plugins that allow you to chain other VST plugins in any series/parallel routing per track. I don't remember the names, but if I find them I'll post. If you search, you should come up with something.

I haven't made use of it so far, but the Reaper DAW is pretty famous for its routing abilities.
Not sure, how the GUI deals with it, but you might give it a try; it's free to test and fully functional.

was gonna suggest Reaper myself, but wasn't sure how much the UI design is what Beefcake's after
stacking multiple effects in series on a single track, and then using sends and returns to simulate going up or down a "row" for parallel and additional post effects, you can effectively get the same results as a grid fairly easily, but the routing won't exactly be "per track" *because* it will be sent through those send and return tracks
...and then I'm inclined to think that most other hosts sequencers work similarly.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm pretty familiar with basic DAW functions. I really am asking specifically for an Axe-type grid layout or a comparable solution one could drop on a track as an insert. I've tried Reaper a couple of times along the years and it seems to be really coming along now (my first contact was when it still couldn't do MIDI). Haven't yet been able to justify the investment in time to learn its particular quirks though, so I'm still going with Cubase.
