Is AM4 Future Proof for next gen updates?

Curious if the AM4 will update alongside the next generation Axe FX 4 whenever that is released? I know fractal doesnt like these questions, but want to make sure this device will receive the same amp update tech as the next generation devices.

I do agree, but also I have invested in the current platform, and dont have much need for an am4, unless it will get next generation updates going forward. If not, its best I wait. Thanks!

You know what else will get next-generation updates? The next-generation gear. The AM4 is not next-generation gear. If you have no other use for it, hold off until the next-generation gear comes out. You know you'll be buying that anyway.

Besides, until the next-generation gear comes out, nothing in the world will take next-generation updates.

What would be the purpose of the next generation device if they could just put them in the ones that are out now?

Obviously the next generation device or devices are going to be stronger and support and have way different things then what we have now, so I'm going to assume no?

Buy something for what it is now, but im sure they will keep it updated for awhile with the stuff they can do with it now?

Not sure if anyone can answer this question... I do know the Axe FX has been getting updates for the last 7 years.

To be fair, the Axe-FX II got some of the Ares (fw 2.0 iirc) goodies before going completely EOL. I think the AX8's engineer (which I had at the time) tried to get it running on it but eventually couldn't happen. It wasn't Cliff and co's obligation but the gift was surely well appreciated in the community and I'm pretty sure it was the final nail in the coffin that convinced many of us to upgrade because IMHO the Axe-FX II and III were pretty much on par soundwise until about FW 5.XX when magic really started happening for this generation.

I wouldn't even expect the Axe III to get the next generation modeling at this point, let alone one of Fractal's least expensive processors.

Let's be realistic here folks. You get what you pay for.

Fractal has always squeezed the most out of their products.

If not gen 4 compatible (whatever that means), I would hope an AM4 release today means many future updates for the AM4 and all the gen 3 hardware for many years to come.

Shorter, yes — especially if you bought your unit when it first came out. But unreasonably shorter? That's a matter of perspective. The AM4 is the best modeler-in-a-small-package that you can get. If that's what you want, denying yourself such a thing because there might be fewer updates — well, that's an act that some might call unreasonable.

The purchase price is only ever for what the unit can do right now, nothing more. To have expectations otherwise means you are probably choosing the wrong product for your needs.

The VP4 has been out 13 months and is on its V4 beta release.
That might give one an idea of what type of support/updates to expect from the AM4.

Future proof? is anything really future proof, I think not. I would say buy it for what it is right now if it fits your criteria and use it. When the tool breaks or is no longer usefull keep it, sell it move on to the next one. Pretty sure there are a lot of first, second gen Axe FX, AX8's out there still in use just like there are plenty of 68 Plexis out there still being used to make music!
