Yup. You really don't need more than your ear to dial it in. Do you get the same amount of gain with the new guitar as you did with the old guitar? You're done. Can't tell the difference? You're done.
Different guitars produce different amounts of gain for more reasons than just their output level. Differences in pickup EQ can make the gain sound different, too. So you can't just go by measured levels. They're different guitars, and they'll never sound exactly the same. This is just to get your gain in the ballpark.
