Of course it does. You just expect some percentage of lost revenue in your planning and go ahead.
And people who use pirated software aren’t even always lost revenue because they wouldn’t buy the product anyway for a million reasons, from religious (“paying for software is silly” kind of stuff) to the mere fact that in many countries even a hundred bucks is a ton of money and they just can’t afford it.
Some people use pirated versions as some kind of extended trial, too.
There are of course also those who can afford to pay and just prefer free riding, but that’s not 100%.
In Fractal’s case, of course they also need to consider potential cannibalization of hardware sales, so it’s more complicated. They may lose some, but also gain some by offering their stuff to people who don’t want hardware.
Anyways, just hope they’ll overcome this reluctance one day. I’d really love to have a plugin version as a backup/super portable rig.
