Here is the door:

Soundproof Doors, Sound Control Interior Door - Studio 3D

It was a factory second, in that it has sander burn marks on its face. I simply skinned the exterior, the burned side, as shown previously in the thread. I cut down a Masonite 6 panel door, attached it to plywood to account for the depth of the panels, glued to the door and painted. Of course to allow the lock set to function I had to route a channel for the entire piece to fall within. On the exterior there is only 1.5" between the handle and door face, so you have to adjust to that, but it's fine.

You can watch video of how to install door:

Wow great work Luke. About par for someone that has those electrostatic headphones (meant as a compliment).

I'm curious, how much sound would transfer through a small, like 1 inch diameter, hole in a totally soundproof wall?

Also, for the guys that are worried about condensation in the airspace between walls, couldn't you just add a small removable access plug in the wall to insert one of those chemical dehumidifier trays in that space, like what they use in boats? They suck moisture out of the air and would probably need to be checked every few weeks or less.

1 square inch of gap in a soundproof room lowers ALL the soundproofing to 50% of its total efficacy. So if you spend a million dollars soundproofing a room and have a 16" long, 1/16" crack under you door, your room will still let out 50% of sound. (Source: Building The Home Recording Studio) Hard to believe, and depressing, but true.

Awesome, congrats!
I'm more than half way of building up mine and can't wait for it to be ready!

This is an important bit of info. Thx!

Luke, very good job. I guess in light of Corey's info, it's important to be as thorough as you have been. Great work.

Congrats and nice work Luke- I've participated in a couple of similar builds here in Austin over the years but never been lucky enough to do my own space yet. Lotta work and money goes into doing this right... and there's little else I think you can do for yourself (besides wood shedding) than to have a great space to write/record/play in.. my intention is to have windows to let the outside in a bit, which only complicates things more.

Enjoy..

Nice work, Luke.
MFC could use some love. Sukh's new KickTags may be just the thing for that.
Room looks great.

What hangers did you go with for all those guitars?
I'm using Hercules locking hangers in my studio.
