Help...is this all in my head?

This happened to me too. But it was after I loaded some axe II patches to my axe xl.I did a system reset twice, reloaded the firmware then I reset the amp block, and everything was good, crossing my fingers.

Also I couldn`t get the input leds to tickle the red but after all this ordeal it`s doing it. I also had to lower my amp levels.

I hope this doesn't sound like I am being a dick here, cause i am really not going for that.

Have you checked the cables your using for output and input? I've had cables do exactly what your describing as they start to die.

Hi,
Have you tried removing the Wah block from your preset entirely? The reason I suggest that is that I have noticed that sometimes the Wah remains active even if it is disabled. This happens to me if I choose an external controller... Even when I bypass the Wah block (assuming it'd then be bypassed) it isn't.

Hope that helps
Pauly

Hey guys. Long time Axe-Fx user here. I am currently gigging regularly and have been for with the AFX for many years. I have a question that I am hoping you guys can help me with. Last Saturday, I played my first gig with the new 18.07 fw and was extremely happy with my tones. Nice thick tones that were cutting through the mix nicely. Best I have ever sounded. Although I have always been happy with my tones from the AFX which is why I hadn't upgraded since 13.02. I am monitoring with a single QSC K12.

So here's the problem. Last night at rehearsal, I was super unhappy with my tones. Everything seemed to be thin, nasal, cocked wah sounding. I went so far as to double check my presets to make sure the wah was auto off as it should and recalibrated my FCB1010 pedals just to make sure wah was off. Came away from rehearsal bewildered shaking my head wondering if my ears were just having a bad night or playing tricks on me.

Decided to fire up again this morning at home and have another listen to see if things have changed and I'll be damned if everything is just sounding thin and nasal....especially the high gain presets. Lower mids seem to have gone away. The attack on the strings is shrill/ice-picky. I checked to make sure that power amp modeling was on and cab was active. Looked through all the settings and don't see anything is out of whack. Checked my speaker (K12) settings all OK. I am wondering if there is something obvious that I might be missing here. Thinking I should maybe reinstall the firmware?

At a loss. Any help would be appreciated.

I had this happen a few years ago and I think people thought I was losing my mind...me as well. :) I just remember thinking that there is no way this is normal. I would sound great one day and horrible the other. I ended up downloading the firmware again and it sort of fixed itself. I couldn't put my finger on why and never figured it out. I think sometimes a problem can happen during download and the system just needs a reboot.
romanianreaper might be onto something. Reloading the firmware has helped others with this problem. So has resetting system parameters.

If it's in all presets then it kind of points to a hardware issue. I hope it's your guitar or cable etc. but if it's inside the Axe-Fx then contact support.

Yep plug in an iPhone and play tunes through your speaker, rule out that part.
Or use headphones with the axe

I had this too back in fw 6.x
my symptoms though was sounding like a kazoo.. everything sounded very broke..
I reloaded and it didn't fix the prob..
I re-downloaded the firmware and then reloaded the fresh one and all was better..

Create a preset from scratch and monitor with the front panel headphone jack.

A basic Marshall -> 4x12 -> Reverb preset should sound balanced at the default settings.

Yep. Make a preset with the an amp and ir as used in one of your presets.

See if that sounds the same. Try to reload your presets again also.

If you didn't upgrade your firmware or install the factory presets right before the tone went bad, re-installing those will not help.
To verify your main configuration, execute Reset System Params.

If that doesn't help, check the guitar, guitar cable, and cable from Axe to K12.

Have you done a system parameters reset or checked the global eq to make sure you didnt accidentally change something without knowing?

This is happening to me when I move one of the new presets through Axe Edit/Manage Presets to one of my empty slots. The Wah appears Bypassed but is active. Just verified this is happening even when previewing presets in Axe Edit.

I would rebuild a patch with one amp, one cab and no fx first and monitor it in mono just to be sure it's not some sort of phasing issue. If that sounds ok then you might want to check your output settings.
