Harley Benton FRFR-112A, and other low cost FRFR, share your thoughts.

Hi
so to clear up things: teh AFX3 is connected cia spdif to my motu 828es, and the ùultiple out of the motu to: monitors B2031A, a subwoffer 10", and the pair of GM50 driving the PA 302 which are the passive speakers.

dears,
just an update. I had a pair of eminence speakers for FRFR in my stuff: BETA12CX and ASD 1001 for a coaxial mounting.
So I tried to replace the internal 12" speaker in my HB FRFR112a with this duo. I unplug the built-in treble driver, let it in place, and plug the 4 wires to the 12cx and the mounted ASD1001. This mean using the onboarded filter to drive the 12" and the driver.
As a result I keep it, as it gives me a more accurate tone, less muddy than the factory 12".
Again in the frame of my modest usage in my room...
Bruno

OP, if you live in Israel then the Laney FR212 is sold for cheap here locally (I haven't tried it). The Fender FR12 is also available (in Klei Zemer store) but is outrageously expensive compared to it's original price (still, I bought the FR10 and I like it).

Took me almost a year....but hey....we have a decision :D
Just received 2 x HB 112a FRFR monitors.
Overall impression after first test / use is money well spent.
They deliver what I was looking for, decent sound, not so heavy, gives me what I was missing for my home studio.
Still exploring, need to figure if I need to change something with the EQ setting or leave it as is.

In the end, if you like it them it’s a good purchase. Enjoy your setup!

I started with the Headrush and then 2 Laney's the 8" and the 112...I found the Laney 8" to be the best of those ...the Laney 112 was too Boxy sounding with too much low mid's.
I now have 2 Fender FR10's and an EV PXM12...both of those are, to my ears ( retired soundman still with ears) are way more natural sounding and conform closer to any patches made on my fairly expensive Studio monitors.

The FR10's rock out and PXM is versatile and prisice, both get loud.

I heard someone say the FR12's sound boomy or boxy...so as always sound is subjective to the listener...mileage may vary!
I have 2 FR12’s but I use fractals global eq to low pass 100 hz and it sounds really good. The Fenders are 27 lbs and only $599.

Laney LFR 112 or LFR 212 are amazing units, I have the 212 and it gives you the sound and feel of a real 212 cab
I got one a couple of weeks ago and it’s stellar but you need to use the global eq to taste to reduce boxyness on the cabinet. The 2x12LFR sounds legit and it rips!

the good old berhinger Truth B2031A (really under rated)
+1.
When they were new I pitched them against Genelecs at 8 times the price. Sound signature was very similar, Genelecs slightly more detailed, but not much and certainly not 8 times. I think the B's were "inspired" by those G's. Had the, at the time (mid 90s) market disrupting, Mackie (HR 814?) in the same comparison and those were definitely very honky compared to both G and B.
Still using the Behringers.

Buying a Geo Metro to replace a Yugo just gets you two future lawn ornaments on cinder blocks. Save up for a good frfr, sell yr HB, and you'll understand. Even a QSC CP or Yamaha DXR 8 or 10 will be a huge step up.
