FX8 Midi Mapping

Hello folks!

I'm thinking of getting a GigRig G2 switcher because I use a lot of external drive pedals with my FX8.
Is there any way of using midi mapping on the FX8? The G2 sends out a fixed midi PC message for every footswitch. This is not IMO the best way to communicate with the FX8. Any input is much appreciated.

Would it not be easier to just use the FX8 to send the MIDI to the Gigrig G2 ?
That way you use the device with more MIDI capability to control the one with less.
