Fryette Deliverance question

Does anybody know how the "Gain I" control works on a technical level with this amp? I've been reading the amp's manual, and while it's clear that the "Gain II" control simply increases preamp gain, the exact function of the "Gain I" control is a little more vague.

The opposite ends of the knob are labeled Crisp and Thick, but I'm curious what that means, specifically.
-Does the knob control a treble-boosted gain stage that, when it's turned up, heads into clipping until eventually the lows are clipping just as much as the highs?
-Is it a tilt EQ?
-Is it a pre-distoriton bass EQ knob, similar to a Mesa Mark series bass knob?

Does anybody here know?

I don't know what the circuit is doing on the technical level, but to my untrained ear the gain I on my Sig:X amp seems to be acting like a gain stage and a pre-gain EQ simultaneously. It is a powerful tone shaping tool and the way you decide to balance gain I / gain II is more important to the overall sound than how you set the three band EQ.

I thought it was like the two gain/volume controls on a Plexi-style amp? So Gain 1 (Drive on the Axe Fx III) would be like Treble Drive and Gain 2 (Overdrive on Axe Fx III) would be like Normal Drive. I may be completely wrong but this is what I made of it. Another possibility might be that it is similar to the USA IIC+'s controls.

I wish there was a easy to ingest guide to the technical function of generic branches of amps.
e.g. plexis are set up like this <XXXX>. mark series are set up like this <YYYY>

I have a D120 and a Sig:X. This is a very good description, at least to my ears.

As Gain 1 is turned up, it adds low end, low mids and gain. Gain 2 adds compression and gain without adding low end or low mids.

It seems to me that the model has less gain/saturation overall compared to the real amp (see e.g. this video below). Could anyone with access to a real amp chime in on this?

I agree. Even with my EMG 707 equipped guitar, the amp model has way less gain. (Note: the battery and cables are fine.) My other guitars have lower output pickups, so I expect less drive. It's not difficult to rectify the "lack" of gain by turning on the input boost, but it is a big difference from every high gain demo I've seen. I really like the character of the gain as well, by the way.

Part of it could be the custom cab with V30's. IIRC the original D60 cab came loaded with Eminence P50e's, later with Fanes. Every time I hear this amp it sounds different depending on the cab it's going through. Great sound regardless.
