FM9 Firmware Version 9.01

FM9 Firmware Version 9.01 is now available for download:
https://www.fractalaudio.com/downloads/firmware-presets/fm9/9p0/fm9_dsp_rel_9p01.zip

An updated version of FM9-Edit is required for use with this release:
https://forum.fractalaudio.com/threads/fm9-edit-1-03-10.212821/

New DynaCabs
A Dyna-Cab update is required if you are updating from a firmware version prior to 9.0 Beta 2.
The required Dyna-Cab file is included in the zip file for this release.
If you are upgrading from version 9.0 beta 1 or older, please follow the instructions in the included Firmware Update Guide. If you are updating from 9.0 beta 2 or 9.0 you do not need to reinstall Dyna-Cabs.

Preset CPU and Factory Presets
This firmware version includes major improvements to sound quality and performance. As a result, some presets now require more CPU. Older Factory Presets may exceed 80% CPU usage, especially on the standard (non-Turbo) FM9. To address this, new Factory Presets have been created for firmware 9.0+. These are not installed automatically and must be downloaded separately:

FM9-Edit v1.03.11 - the last one - compatible with this update firmware v.9.01?
Or i must downgrade FM9-Edit to v1.03.10?

Hit a staccato chord, and listen to what happens at 0 diffusion compared to maximum diffusion. You'll hear multiple discreet delays turn into a single wash.

I really like how "diffusion" morphs the repeats into a wash of reverb and use it on most of my delay settings. I find that I only need anywhere from 5% -> 10% for a setting.

And thanks @m_brown and FAS for the update...

Yes, Thanks.

I don't have any other product - HW or SW, at any price point that gets as much free, unrequired/unrequested but much appreciated, or requested and responded to, where feasible, support as with my FAS gear.

It truly is appreciated, at least by this owner.

I agree. The one downside is I now hold EVERY audio manufacturer to Fractals standards, and all of them (with the exception of Emerald Guitars) fall woefully short. The list of brands I refuse to spend my money with grows every year (anything InMusic anyone?). I've recently invested with the Arturia ecosystem for softsynth duties, and after dropping over a grand on a controller and software, I've been waiting for 3 months on a software update that allows everything to just work as it should, much less any sort of improvements or bug fixes. I'm pretty sure Arturia and NI, and the while InMusic conglomerate are much larger companies with more resources at their disposal than Fractal Audio, yet they pale in comparison when it comes to customer service, and actually being able to get a fully functional product out to the customer.
Part of me wishes Cliff would expand into other areas of music production. Interfaces, software, soft synthesizers and controllers or even a Fractal workstation synth, hardware processors, control surfaces...

Plugins aren't like hardware either: they'll stop working unless you can manage to keep an old computer running. I have old projects that I can't open without spending thousands to upgrade plugins I really no longer want/need. Moral of the story: freeze/print everything to stems!

I think fractal is awesome and super responsive to customer needs. However, while big companies may have more resources, they need to make decisions where they will allocate them. Some products are either at maturity or lower on the importance ladder and may not require as much attention. We get used to a constant stream of improvements provided for one type of device and companies that dabble in many fields can’t compete with that due to having too many eggs in a basket.

Not sure why the jump in CPU? One scene has more active FX but CPU is fine. Next scene has fewer FX but CPU is OVEROAD? This was fine before the update. Any thoughts?

It's interesting. Under fw9.00 my main preset was running at 76.9 - 77% on scene 1, which seems to be the most CPU hungry one of the 8 in the preset. Most of the other scenes were 74 to 76%.

Under fw9.01 I'm seeing a steady CPU increase of roughly 0.3, or 0.4%. So if your presets are living right on the edge that extra bump in CPU might put you into overload territory.

I'm still putting my presets through their paces under 9.01 but so far it doesn't look like I need to rework any of my bread & butter presets.

Dear all,
This is my first question here ever but i have to do.
Never had had Problems with last FW Updates. After installing 9.01 all my presets o Bank D with self-made Presets sounding terrible and not as they usual do. All other presets A/B/C are ok. I still refreshed everything after installing FW as required.
For now i turned back to 8.01 and everything is working well.

I heard about that self-made Presets have to be refreshed in another way - but how?

Thx for your help

Hi @BeckY, define "terrible". Are you using the Room setting in the Cab block? Turn it further down.
Hello,

it sounds extremely harsh and as you are playing in a big Can. It's like an undefined synthetic sound. Can't really define it with my words on point (sorry).
But i will try the room setting as you said.
Will let you know.
Thx

Most likely the Room setting then. When you are updating, in Fractal-Bot under the update progress bar is a link to read the release notes. So while you are waiting, scroll through those and you'll most likely be able to track down the cause of terrible sounding presets.

Hy,

wanna say thank you. To turn down "Air" and or "Room" is the key. What a massive impact after the new update.
Have a great day.

There's a reason so many of us are loyal users. The tone and the device build quality were the "got me in the door" reasons, but the support and updates are why so many of us are Fractal first for music.
