Get into the feedback loop with them on the wish list and give them mockups for improvements that can't be easily explained. As a long time Fractal user, I love the constant strive for better sound but I wish they also put that much effort in the user interface on the hardware as there's a ton of fairly easy things to fix and improve that would make using the unit without Axe-Edit/FM3-Edit significantly better.
I'd sum L+R and always think towards allowing him stereo into the FOH system. Flexibility is good.Just ordered my bass player an FM3, he's going to be clueless with it so I'll be busy! One question though which I'm kinda clueless. I've always ran stereo but if he runs mono can he just use left out or do I need to sum L+R?
- use Output Mode Copy L > R instead of Sum L+R in the I/O menu
That depends on your presets.Just ordered my bass player an FM3, he's going to be clueless with it so I'll be busy! One question though which I'm kinda clueless. I've always ran stereo but if he runs mono can he just use left out or do I need to sum L+R?
Hmmmm. If you sum left and right, you could get phasing issues. Will that happen? It depends on what’s in your presets.
Read the page I linked to just above as it talks about this stuff. So, if we choose all mono for effects blocks we should ok, correct? If not, what do we watch for to avoid phasing issues?
I don’t think they will want a Behringer V-Amp 2 and a Zoom 505II back.

Thanks! Very informative page. Phase issues is one of the the biggest complaints I hear from sound guys about modelers.Read the page I linked to just above as it talks about this stuff.
Yeah, I'm sure its where to allocate limited resources (programmers). As a long time Fractal user, I love the constant strive for better sound but I wish they also put that much effort in the user interface on the hardware as there's a ton of fairly easy things to fix and improve that would make using the unit without Axe-Edit/FM3-Edit significantly better.
I think a big part of that is because Line 6 doesn't expose anywhere close to the number of settings and parameters that Fractal does; That makes it a lot easier to design an interface and to navigate it. They're targeting the plug 'n play crowd who don't want to tweak and don't want to learn the ins and outs of the internals of their pedals and amps, and that difference is why I sold my Helix and switched to Fractal.I have the full Helix Floor for comparison and it's a helluva lot faster and more intuitive to operate than the FM3. I've already posted a bunch of things on the wishlist and I hope some of them get implemented when they get the bigger things like 3.03 and the Cygnus update out of the way.
Yeah, I have a very solid understanding on how Tube guitar amps work. So Fractal stuff is right for me.I think a big part of that is because Line 6 doesn't expose anywhere close to the number of settings and parameters that Fractal does; That makes it a lot easier to design an interface and to navigate it. Give them a stereo feed and tell them to deal with it. If they're running a mono house system they'll still get phase issues, it'll just occur in their equipment and speaker systems.Phase issues is one of the the biggest complaints I hear from sound guys about modelers.
Same here. I think Fractal needs to present an image of a tube glowing red and arcing, or an amp head smoking, on the panel when the FM3 wants to display its CPU warning.BTW: when I adjust certain parameters such a bias on the FM3 deep in my subconscious its saying "don't do that it's hard on the tubes"
... where you can't fix it.Give them a stereo feed and tell them to deal with it. If they're running a mono house system they'll still get phase issues, it'll just occur in their equipment and speaker systems.

It's not really the number of parameters but fundamental differences in how they work.I think a big part of that is because Line 6 doesn't expose anywhere close to the number of settings and parameters that Fractal does; That makes it a lot easier to design an interface and to navigate it. I agree that there are some issues that should be addressed, both in the hardware interface and the Edit app, and maybe, at some point in a future firmware, they'll bring in some human-interface people who can work with the existing knobs on the hardware and redesign a bit.
I have a Kemper, FM3, and HX Stomp. The helix stuff is definitely not plug and play. You can make a the amps sound good, but it takes a LOT of work. But even then it’s not as good as Kemper or ax fx.I think a big part of that is because Line 6 doesn't expose anywhere close to the number of settings and parameters that Fractal does; That makes it a lot easier to design an interface and to navigate it.
