FM3 Firmware Version 12.0

@Zorzella: Yes, with Fractool.
FWIW, I tried to get a list with Fractool. I used instructions below, but it didn't yield reliable results. The list It put out had some factory presets allegedly using User IRs. I painstakingly checked every result on the list, some were accurate others were not.

512 IR slots are still a LOT but I agree with you. Maybe adding an option to select which dynacabs to keep, in order to have 1024 IR slots will be a good idea.
Yeah they are, but when all the new dynacabs are basically useless to me and the type of tones I go for, it seems silly. I'm sure people will clown on me, but it's literally removing 50% of the options I had to replace them with things I will likely never use.

MurderSquid I can see your point. I'm not sure if Fractal can implement selective dynacabs, it might be much more complicated than we think.

Do you use all the hundreds of variations of the IR packs you get? What I used to do when we had 10 IR slots, or even 100 lol, was have a designated section for auditioning cabs and then have another spot where I would put my "keepers" in. For example you could use the last 312 user slots to audition IRs and reserve the front 200 for "keepers". Might be a workaround for now?

Either way I hope you find some solution that works for you.

IIRC you don’t need to save the IR on the unit to audition it. Via FM3Edit you can use the files on your computer to audition without needing to save it on the unit.

FWIW I used Fractool, and it worked like a charm.

Note that it reports usages from all channels (A, B, C and D) and sometimes that channel is, like, not used in any scene etc.

The only thing is it's very slow to collect the data. Worth the wait, though.

Here's a tiny bit of a tripping hazard: Fractal-Bot did not nag to be upgraded. The version I was using was still trying to backup user cabs 1-1024, which errored out. Upgrading to the new Fractal-Bot fixed that, but, again, it did not prompt me to do so...

No issues updating and all seems to be working well. Might sense a slight improvement in the few presets I've played so far. The system boot time is about the same (38 secs). No problems with CPU load on the FM3 Mk ii.

Saw the comments about reduced User IR slots. I don't use DCs either, but FAS has to maintain a balance in capabilities for those that do and those that don't. Who knows? Maybe one day I'll start using them.

Good job!

coming from firmware 9.01, what would be the steps (please assume i'm a simple idiot here) involved to upgrade my unit from 9.01 to 12? or even 11? all is working fine, so I'm still relutcant to update, so I'd need to know the steps involved in rolling back to fw.9.01 should things go south.

Does FM3-Edit latest version work with older firmware versions? if not, where is there a place to grab the older versions?
sorry for all the questions, but I can't really have any major downtime. TIA.

1. Prep the FM3 User Cabs, if needed (*see comment below). This is only required if you assign anything to slots above 512.
2. Upgrade FM-3 Edit.
3. Back everything up, presets, cabs, settings.
4. Upgrade the FW using FracBot found in FM3 Edit.
5. You'll probably want to upgrade factory presets. I believe they've been updated since 9.01 (double check that).
6. To roll back just reinstall 9.01 (you'll need to have a copy) and restore the backup files.

*Take note of the reduced # of User IR slots available. Make note of any you're using above 512. They'll need to be moved and the associated cabs updated. See discussion above for how to generate a report to assist with this. Obviously do this before updating.

Are you using FM3 I or II? There could be significant changes to CPU loads.

EDIT: Here's link to v9.01, if needed: https://archive.axefx.fr/FM3/Firmwares/

I just updated my FM3 from FW9 as well. The steps in FCS101’s post are pretty much exactly what I did. I didn’t even have dyna cabs installed yet so I also had to install them lol. I updated FM3 Edit before updating my FM3’s firmware and FM3 Edit still seemed to work with FW9. I didn’t do extensive testing or anything so your mileage may vary. You will absolutely need to install the updated presets due to the CPU requirements. I recommend checking you the new Yngwie By FSM preset. It sounds amazing with the new firmware.

If you do upgrade from what I recall there were some cpu hits particularly with the reverb. You may need to reduce plate dispersion and echo density. The room effect in the cab block was reworked and has a more pronounced effect at the same settings. You will need to lower cab room level if you are using it. There were some cpu hits in the comp blocks too but I don’t use comps and didn’t need to deal with that. You’ll gain some nice amp models, drives, more Dynacabs, and overall improved tone. You will need to make adjustments to recover your tones but it wasn’t too bad from what I remember. Backup all and you can go back if needed.
