FM3 Firmware Version 10.0 public beta

Create a new thread and share the FM3 preset in question and we can try to help. Odds are really good the preset can be tweaked to "unscrew" it.
I appreciate it. I have a pretty good handle on it. I have made come compromises already to get it usable. I am going to take some time and really learn how to dial in reverb and rethink my reverb usage. I like ultra rez ir and started using MTD instead of regular delay and I know those things can be cpu heavy as well.

You need to update FM3 Edit first... only the latest FM3 Edit is aware of the new firmware and all its changes ... older FM3 Edits won't understand the new stuff.

Just put in the latest FM3 Edit and then continue the process. I am sure all will be well then, and there are plenty of folks around here who will help if it is not ... 😃
He used standalone Fractal-Bot... The editor isn't relevant in that case.

Also, you can use the older editor to update with no problem. It might be visually out of sync for certain things but the capability to send a SysEx dump (which is what it's doing) isn't changing.

I regularly update firmware and then the editor. Especially as a private beta tester when there's not yet an editor update.

Hello, sorry for my English, I'm French. I'm using the FM3 since its beginnings, and now I use it mainly for modulation effects, delays, and reverb.
I use analog preamps because I prefer the sound and feel (IR-D and TONE KING preamps).
I just tried this beta version and my sound has changed dramatically.
It's lost some of its body, and the reverbs drown out the sound and make it muddy.
The EQ isn't the same at all... sorry, but this is the first update I don't like.
I just went back to FW9.01, and it's like night and day.
I'm getting that presence and clarity back in my sound.
Maybe the official 10.0 version will fix my problem...
Do your presets have a Cab block and is it using the Room parameter?

Do your presets used a Compressor block?

As mentioned, read the Release Notes. You should always do that before updating to make sure you know what's changing that could impact your presets.

Do you have Gapless ON and Spillover ALL?

A few people have reported issues with lost system settings...
Yeah all on as should be, it's very weird, try rolling back to 9.01 and it wouldn't play certain presets at all, I'm now kind of caught in no mans land..

Any presets you saved under the newer firmware will not be visible to the previous firmware.

You'll need to restore from the pre-update backup you (hopefully) took.

I haven't seen anyone else report issues with scene changes.

Do you only experience this on your own presets? Maybe post one that exhibits the issue?

Do you have a Hold function on the scene switches?

Yeah it holds but even the normal function seems like a hold briefly. I'm going to try the age old approach of turning on and off a few times and pray mixed with swearing to see if that persuades it to shape up

Ok... The Hold will definitely cause a timing delay, though not an audio gap.

Updated. No problems. Love the compressor block! The amp block to me sound very similar to prev firmware... maybe a bit smoother... let's go checking reverbs! :)

I also run tube preamps in my rig along with the amp block as second channel on my non-turbo FM3, and I've not had any problems like you describe?

I have no reverb in my main live preset (it's a MXR Timmy/JCM 800 tube preamp/Tonex One for tube power amp sim plus FX), so if you do check there first, but I do have a compressor which I had to change from JFET studio to JFET pedal to reduce CPU. Otherwise, with regards to all the other blocks no change, though I did have some corruption of my foot-switch settings caused by attempting to edit them via the new editor, but I simply restored from backup and now I'm not editing them until this is fixed etc.

On my Blues/Jazz/Americana preset (it's a MXR Timmy/Twin Reverb tube preamp/Tonex One for tube power amp sim plus Drive and FX), I had to adjust the Large Spring Reverb down to the Medium Spring Reverb to get under CPU, but the spring reverbs are wonderfully improved along with the compressors, so well worth the effort.

Also note that the Cab Block's Room sim has had major changes, so check there as well if you're using it (I'm not using it).

Bonne Chance!

That’s a crazy preset!

I am a little worried about how much longer the FM3 will be able to take heavy updates to keep up with the Axe III. Seems like the CPU will be begging for mercy soon.

No compressor, no cab block ...i use the friedman and tone king ir, it's amazing ...

EDIT: On a sad note I again have to revert to b9.3, as some scene changes were way too slow at 79% CPU while audio was playing (from front panel, foot switches, and MIDI), though hopefully some CPU optimizations later in the process will speed things up. Again, this is a monster preset that could be broken up etc, except then I have to add changes to the two show computers which is a PITA, so it's back to b9.3 for me for now, though for the everyone not on the bleeding edge b10 is a great sounding update for sure, that I hopefully will be using in the future.

Yeah, that one just about maxes the old non-turbo FM3 out for sure LOL!

It's a kitchen sink preset that supports the outboard gear (MXR Timmy/JCM 800 tube preamp/Tonex On for tube power amp sim, along with the amp block for dual amps), as well as three guitars (two humbucker LP's and one P90 LP Jr for slide). Thanks to scenes and channels it does a lot, especially the pitch block which delivers four FX, two custom MIDI controlled harmonizers, and the virtual capo and arpeggiator. The majority of the scene changes and volume/harmonizer automation is handled by Ableton LIVE which helps a lot as I don't need a lot of foot switches (I use the FM3's three foot switches and one external dual switch), and control switches/scene controllers.

I'm hoping for an upgraded CPU FM.x in roughly that form factor for the next gen!

On topic: I love the new beta FW, with the compressors and spring reverbs really standing out, as well as the new triode algorithm!
