Fender FR-12 preamp mod : The Hissterectomy

^^^^ This, very much. There's no way whatsoever to know which "version" you're getting unless you open up the amp and visually check the preamp board.

I'd return it to Thomann and buy a FR-10/12 somewhere where i can test it myself. The only other alternatives are my hiss reduction mod (which involves soldering), or @WKSmith 's replacement preamp, once he finalizes work on it.
Yup, the mod is very easy to do and you can get away with replacing just two of the TL082 opamps, Mouser will sell them for about 50/60€.

I think the parts are not a big deal, as I can place an order in US online stores via third-party and pay as low as $14 per kilo plus a small fee with delivery within 2 weeks. But weighty stuff is a problem.

Thanks anyway! :)

Could you please link the message with details on which ones should be replaced with which ones? There are too many messages and it is quite hard to distinguish what is the general consensus. I'm sorry for the noob questions.

There is a 3rd option. I am ordering a FR-10 this week . I can show you how to bypass the eq with a single piece of wire. That's where 90% of the hiss lives.

Thomann should do a return and refund despite their stock levels.
Show please, that would be great as a quick fix until I got the replacement parts.

Ah, so he can’t exchange it. But he can still return it. I don’t understand why he won’t. Return it now; get what you want later.
Later is at least two month later. :) Without the guarantee that it will be hissless. Thomann is not willing to acknowledge the hiss as an issue. And return is not free, it will cost me around 80 euros, for shipping at least. And I've already paid 80 euros for shipping it to me plus customs fee. Tough story guys, not many options there! :)

No fun. I guess you have three choices: fix it, return it, or live with it. All will cost you something.
