You could pick up Larry’s guitar, plug it into his rig, and still not “sound” like Larry. A person’s technique is as individual as their tone, and often where the “tone is in the fingers” misconception originates.

If Carlos Santana plugged a Strat into a Twin Reverb it would be miles away from his iconic tone, but his technique is so instantly recognizable that you would know it was him playing.

I've been trying to cop Larry's tone for many years, often with him in the room sitting next to me to demonstrate. Even often playing his guitar. I've never come close.
