Without his fingers you will never have that tone but all said and done you are close. For sustain and "that" push I would put a clean boost in the ass end of the amp ( normally use and echoplex into the back of a BE-100 live but not sure what drive block you would use if you replicated this with the axe fx.)..It just brings it forward allowing you to add a touch more compression to the front end. I have taken to using the Suhr Badger 30, and the blues OD for some great strat tones. I'm always immediately thinking of EJ when I play about with the gain pedals and cabs. Great work and good luck in your quest... Also I would hunt down Rick Graham as he has pretty much nailed the EJ tone.
