Carr Troubles

If in AxeEdit you should try manual refresh of the block defs: Settings->Preferences->Refresh

Thanks

Initial impressions ... SIMS sound good - but I am just not feeling it and there is no reason for me to get anybody else Carr sick :lol

Moving on ...

sorry for causing all the raucous.

I do have to ask... have you tried isolating your amp in a closet, and micing it?

I have a feeling the open backed tweed cab style of the Carr is giving you swirly amazing in-the-room sounds which would NOT sound the same as the AxeFx until you start recording the amp.

Its been said before, but I was lucky enough to come to this realization WAY before ever owning an Axe-Fx. I had a Super reverb that sounded AMAZING cranked up in my basement. Just phenominal SRV tone for days. ... until I started trying to capture that sound on record. the second I put an SM57 in front of that amp, it went down the tubes. Very sterile, 1 dimensional. Raspy, harsh...etc. I spent MONTHS learning how to best record amps, but never quite got the super to sound all that wonderful close mic'd.

I tell this story because those months and months of trying to mic an amp gave me the ears to appreciate the AxeFx for what its doing and the sound its creating. This gave me a leg-up on the device because I never tried to recreate the amp-in-room sound.

Thanks

Nope.

I am going to run it through the Carr cab this weekend if I get a chance.

No biggie -- regardless it is a great sounding SIM.

I will try my best never to compare two amps in the same room again -- this experience was a total buzz kill for an old tube guy like me.

I really had no real intention of gigging with the Carr sim in the Axe anyway (my Twin and dumble patches are as solid as they can be and everything is dialed in perfectly for what I play)...

However, if I do get the itch to ride in a Rambler -- all I have to do walk over to my garage. :mrgreen

I might switch over to the 4 cable method for some of my gigs this year and take advantage of the incredible effects in the AF2 with some of my tube amps.

i couldn't agree more and said pretty much the same thing earlier, but was told it had no bearing (not by LVC). I say it all the time, but never set an amp (especially an open back cab) next to the Axe and expect it to sound the same. iso it then compare recordings, then it's a fair fight. (of course this assumes the real amp is mic'd properly, etc)

Not expecting to sound identical (because of cab variables etc) I get that.

the biggest variable and the beauty of these types of amps is that you can them set up to be clean or to be mean (and change their characteristics) depending on the tubes and speakers you use.

So in all fairness - the modeled amp might not be set up like mine is.

Mine has good quality glass and a fairly efficient speaker. Mine is a very loud (plenty of headroom) 28 watts in Pentode mode. enough clean headroom to easily handle a dance/R&B/classic rock gig in a pub/small club environment.

100% Original -- (Original owner of this very amp is an Axe-FX owner) would be interesting to get his take on the SIM.

Pentode Mode (28 wtts) with a Humbucker - at

12 O'clock it is clean - you have to open the guitar up wide and dig in to get some nice break up

1 O'clock it is still clean but with the vol pot at 60% you can dig in and get some very nice grit - opened up you get some nice OD tones

3 O'clock - again clean but the guitar wants to explode. With guitar opened up you get the classic Carr creamy saturated overdriven tone.

I could not go any higher because my wife came into my office ... she did not need to say anything.

Across all volume settings, the Carr retains its signature punchiness as well.

and we have not even discussed the tremolo circuit :o

Killer amp.

Alright, you talked me into it. The beta version is so cool that I copied it to a new model called "FAS Class-A".

Cliff, does the FAS Class-A have black or tan grill cloth? I'm trying to set up advanced settings this weekend, and need to know. Also, does it have a handle on the top or recessed handles on the sides? This could affect my cabinet resonance settings. Mine will have one of those kick stands on the side so I can tilt it back like a floor wedge.

Much obliged.

It doesn't have a grille cloth, it uses perforated metal.
