Cab Drive - What is it really doing

Like many, I am trying to get closer to that "in the room, real guitar cab" sound/feel with my FRFR (QSCs) live.

The cab drive variable, I assume is applying simulated speaker compression and distortion as you turn it up. Is this correct ?

A few questions that I assume only Cliff can answer:
Is it linear ?
Is it modeled based on the actual speaker/cab of the IR, or is it the same for all IRs it is applied to ?
Does it work the same on custom IRs ?
What approximates a hard, but not over, driven cab (perhaps noon) ?
I noticed none of the factory presets use it. Any specific reason ?

Thanks,

Thanks,

Distortion is non-linear
You can pretty much guarantee it is the same for all IRs
Yes, it works the same on user cabs
The most of factory presets were made before cab drive was around.
