"Black Swan Event"(my project) heavy rock track. Skervesen. New OwnHammer library!

Experienced

Hey guys, this is a rough mix for a new track off my upcoming EP. The band is called Black Swan Event. Vocals coming!

There is also a new OwnHammer library based on the Mills cab, V-30s and my favorite mic, the 441! So balanced!

"412-GTR MIL-AB V30-EWH"

The patch is just a filter, the Herbie ch3 and the cab. Guitar is my Skervesen Raptor 6, Aftermaths.

Drums are au-naturale other than about 30% kick augmentation and a snare room sample from the Blackbird Slate library.
-Gretsch Renown Maple, Mapex Black Panther Bronze 6.5"x14" snare.

Bass is scratch.

Let me know what you think!

Thanks so much guys :) can't wait to get real bass and some vocals on there! :)

What do you think the vocal style should be on this if you were the producer?

Agreed. Something clean would work in the beginning and then drop it into something huge and mean. Badass riffs, man. Tones are great!

So are you finding a preference between filters or drives these days? Also, what do you think of the Slate BB drums? I've been curious but haven't heard too much of them outside of the demos from the company. So what's the skinny? Better rooms than say, various libraries from SD?

Thanks everyone! I was thinking the same thing on vocals!  They are in production now so it’s good people got the same idea we did 

I have been playing with filters in front of amps that are already particularly tight and aggressive. The Herbert is a perfect match, IMHO. Other amps sounds a bit too “brown” without a drive. While thing works amazing well for some style, it doesn’t for mine. I do like that filters leave your amps character in place rather than homogenizing the amps. However, I usually blend in 50% dry signal with the pedal just to minimize that homogenization :)

Slate BB… I like the rooms better than all the other rooms in all the other packs. The original Slate room (which was actually a porn DVD warehouse—Steven told me that himself, so it’s gotta be true! Lol) was nice but too big for most stuff I do. I always hated the NRG room. The CLA room… meh. This pack has a nice mix of practical rooms.

SD2 rooms are better all around that Slate IMHO. I also like their kit sounds better as they are not pre-tailored. I’m a sample maker myself so I have a certain way I like to treat them and sometimes the Slate ones are just too hyped. Great samples, non-the-less. :)
