Best workaround for less switch latency with Ax8

You can use scene controllers to adjust parameters like input trim or drive so an amp can be set up clean and the next scene the scene controller increases the parameter or parameters on the amp to get more crunch. The pedal boosts will push the amp even further into overdrive. You’d be using the same amp in your scenes.

You can set up with different amps using X/Y but that’s where some of the latency comes into play. You’d be surprised how well a 100 watt Marshall can do clean.

So do you mean to just use an amp with a clean sound (head space) and just use pedals for overdrive when switching from scene to scene?
That's one way. There are a few ways to look at this.

Have a completely clean tone, and then add varying amounts of gain with a drive block and/or filter blocks via scenes.

Have a edge of breakup tone, and use filter blocks set to negative settings to cleanup the amp, and then drive blocks to dirty up the amp via scenes.

Or have a fully driven tone, and use filter blocks in front of it with negative settings to clean it up. Or a Scene Controller attached to the Input Trim and/or Input Drive of the amp block to get various gain settings per scene.

Or a combination of the above.

Some amps are better at some methods, and some amps are better at other methods.

I haven't learned about scene controllers yet, is the best resource to learn more about them in the owner's manual? Is it something you adjust on the physical pedal or in the software?

It's all handled inside the unit. The manual covers it, but there are some tutorials out there.
