Best way of splitting a signal from Output 1 to FOH & IEM

As the title says I 'd like to split the signal from output 1 so that it feeds both front of house and my IEM signal. I need to keep output 2 free going to amp and FRFR (for feel/feedback and for rest of band who aren't using IEM's to hear me) and would prefer taking control of my IEM myself rather than use an aux channel on the desk. Mainly because sometimes the singer needs his IEM's and rest of the band need odd monitor mix requests which use up the aux channels and I don't trust sound guys!! :D

I have some Y-split XLR's but IIRC i read something about maybe doing harm to the Axe FX using this method (done a search and cant find it), or would a couple of passive DI boxes do the trick using the Line Thru portions of these. Cables would be obviously easier.

Thoughts anyone? :ugeek

Y-splits should be okay but alternatively you could use both the XLR balanced and the 1/4" unbalanced connections for output 1 simultanously.
