Axe-fx Vs Axe-fx ...challenge inside....

Burning the direct tracks to a CD-R worked perfectly. Thanks Stef!

Stef playing through my JCM800 preset: http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/1872996/Ream ... 09Stef.mp3

I like it. :D

Here's FlyingAngus playing through my Bogner: http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/1872996/Ream ... 9Angus.mp3

If you are missing anything with those... we just have different tastes. :D

Hey Scott, you forgot the beginning. ;)

Interesting. I have the file I have from that - my beginning is different. It's the same file, I never touched it. Do you have a URL to that longer original direct track? I plan to dig into re-amping that track in earnest using more flipped out gain and some effects to match the original more. (And holding out till the new Red Channel Bogner models are available in the next firmware. Once that hits, I know I'll nail that tone exceptionally well). The Red channel on a Bogner is a strange creature, when I had mine I used to struggle with it. Sounds fantastic solo'd out, but in a group mix a LOT of the bottom end gets lost in the mix, especially live in my experience. I was a boosted blue channel guy. But that original track from Angus used a gained out Red channel. Bogner Ecstasy's are just one of my favorite all-time amps; but they have this blown-up out-of-control bottom end thing that you have to pay a lot of attention too in order to harness and control it enough to find that 'balance point' where it works, but doesn't get away from you. Angus's original Bogner clip exhibits that very well, right there on the edge of chaos with the bottom end, but not flubby and too loose that it sounds like crap. Reinhold Bogner is a freaking genius, IMHO.

As for Stef's cut, I plan to mess more with the Plexi edge tones he seems to prefer too.

This reamp project thing is refreshing to me because I enjoy sound design and tones; and I can finally do with with this 'new to me' workaround of using the CD player.

Stef,

Here's your take with my Bogner. I think this is closer in spirit to what you prefer, though I think the tone is a little more 'sinewy' than you'd prefer; it works for me.

Your DI dry guitar track was very low in volume, so there is some noise. With louder DI, I can do a lot cleaner stuff without the hiss.

If you want to hear some more tones, let me know.

Here's Angus with exactly the same tone:

i've watched again some axe fx clip and saw again this one :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=24Z_IOWkepk&fmt=22

i find this one in a live context absolutly killer , it doesn't seem to have the "high/medium" freq that kill people's ear when they are front of a tube amp (i hatethat), i mean it 's the exact mix between raw sound and produced sound, and it fit in the mix very well.
do you know if samhill is here in the forum, i would have 2/3 questions to ask if he doesn't mind.

Yes, samhill is here in the forum and he already have posted a lot of clips and patchs.
Go through the pages of the "Recordings" thread until you find one of his posts and send him a private message. He seems to be a very nice guy.

Sam uses on many videos an ART MPA Pro (preamp mic). I told you to try it a few months ago on the french forum.

At least I've made the connections for reamping today and I've played with Stef track.
Here are some results:
http://racarach.free.fr/sounds/Reamp_JCM800.mp3
http://racarach.free.fr/sounds/Reamp_AC30TB.mp3
http://racarach.free.fr/sounds/Reamp_JCM800_drive.mp3
http://racarach.free.fr/sounds/Reamp_JCM900.mp3
http://racarach.free.fr/sounds/Reamp_Ecstasy.mp3

The names of the files indicate the amp sim. The JCM800_drive contains a drive block before the amp block.

The high level of noise is due to my temporary connection for reamping.

The high level of noise is coming from the low level of the signal and the noise coming from the amp model.
Plug nothing into the Axe, put a block amp in the path with drive and master to 3/4 and you will get a noise in output even if nothing is plugged into the Axe...as a real amp.(remove the amp block and you will get no noise at all)

The high level of noise is coming from my iPhone plugged into the Axe-Fx through its headphone minijack using a cheap cable. If I plug nothing, I get noise but not so high.

here's the original reamp file : you can see , in green that when i play "hard" on the string , it's almost going to saturation.
the red is when i roll my volume down and play with my finger

what does it mean : that you must set your device to the harder you pick because instead it will clip , that's what i did.
it also means that me and my tyler , we have a great dynamic, and i love that :D
so sorry for the noise it may create with reamping, but it's not because of recording too low or something like that.

BTW i'm selling my axe fx , it seems i didn't found the key and i'm tired of searching and tweaking.
anyway thanks to all for your help.

You can get low noise if you did not crancked the drive and the master but in this case you are out of this test. The breath of the model is the same on all Axes.

The first signal is your own before clipping the second mine. The scale is the same.

I'm here ask away. Usually on my YT videos I use a Joe Meek TwinQ mic pre for the direct feeds...sometimes I use an ART MPA Gold mic pre, others just and Edirol R09HR. The live video above was just the Edirol unit.

do you use them just to eq ?

i always use something after the axe fx to make it juicer and warmer.
here's an exemple with my tube power amp (not crancked) + torpedo vb101 (load box+IR)
http://rbul1.free.fr/torpedo5.mp3

i found this to bring me more harmonics and "in your face"
