Axe-Fx III Firmware 31.04 Public Beta #2

Grouping the Amps is next to impossible in the hardware. The editor could possibly have metadata allowing filtering.

What about just a couple different sort options? With a few bits for each amp you could sort by type or wattage. You could also use those bits as different ways to optionally auto-colorize the list.

Metadata / word tagging of amps would be great!... even if only accessible in editor... though would be nice if metadata / tags could be shown somewhere and/or searched on the device itself.

If Fractal could implement meta tags, and do a broad first pass and just tag each amp with Era/Design Philosophy that would be great first step. If each amp could have several meta tags, that would be optimal, and save those tags in a user controllable setting that will be preserved from firmware to firmware.

Then, the user community could do the legwork (and avoid any legal issues for Fractal) with creating much deeper / more accurate tagging for amps, including the real brand and model names, famous artists who use the amp prominently, etc..... and share the user tagging file, so the whole community could benefit. I would love to be able to search by brand, specific model, artist, genre, etc...

Yeah, I know the wiki. The idea is to incorporate meta word tagging directly within Axe Edit, so the community could build/share meta tag files, and then users can directly search/filter in Axe Edit for what they're looking for and get immediate results without having to go on a Wiki/Google expedition.

Grouped design philosophy, direct brand/model names, "based-on" models, eras, artists who prominently used, primary genre associations, etc...

This is awesome. Solid improvement.

Getting the amps to a consistent naming convention based on manufacturer (USA, Wrecker, Matchbox, Hipower, Citrus, Dizzy etc) might be a painful transition but would be a major improvement in the long run. Some of these other schemes (eg sort by gain or player) are completely unworkable and seem at odds with the Fractal approach to me.

I'm having an issue. I run my Axe-Fx 3 into my PreSonus Studio 192 via SPDIF in and out. I tried using the pitch block with a -24 setting and it creates a digital collapse of my sound card. No sound at all. Reverting to 31.03 for now.

What about a consistent naming by brand? Like adding "Brit" as the first word for all marshall models (not all of them currently have it iirc), something like "Fnd" or "Fullertone" for all fenders, "USA" for mesa, "Vx" for vox, etc.
This would already make much easier/quicker navigating thru them imho.

If feasible, that would be best left to a next gen, because it would mess up many existing things.

Having fun playing this beta! Hadn't noticed any issues for about an hour. But then the USB audio to my Mac Studio stopped working (from any source, not just Logic).
Hadn't had that happen in a long time. Not sure if I can reproduce, but I had to reboot the Axe-Fx III to bring back audio.

Mac Studio M1 Max, running Tahoe 26.2.
I had just updated Logic Pro to 12 yesterday, so I was playing with a simple recording to explore some new features there. Recorded a guitar track no problem. Added some drums and studio instruments. Paused to answer a call. And silence from any playback.
Will see if I can reproduce, but checking Mac settings (audio, audio midi, etc) didn't do anything nor did unplugging and replugging usb cable.

All is fine on my side ;)
