Various other fixes and improvements.

On this firmware I dont get the clipping signal/sign all the time with my EB majesty.. that's great!

I don’t have feedback, I haven’t tried it. I’m asking for a report back folks who have actually played it.
Goading people into providing an assertion they’ve actually played with the firmware or not when they write in the thread isn’t how you go about doing that.

If you want an answer to a question, ask the question.

The other way to read what you were doing is far less kind.

After spending some more time with the VC, I've found that the 4.20 setting works for down tuning -2. Going up to +2 requires a setting of @5.15 to get similar results. Again, the Notes and Chords work much better but if you want to fine tune, setting the Pitch Tracking to Off and using the Track Adjust to dial it in yields better results in my limited experience.
Good to know, I have my strat to Eb and want a +1 for standard. the 5.15 setting and tracking off should yield same results?

(Aug. 12th 2025 Edit: Voluntarily deleted the whole contents, as the discussions following my post didn't turn either as I intended or in favour of the interest of the community, and there were errors on my side that made my post unfair to FAS. Apologies for the inconvenience.)

I'd never judge a downtuning device on the basis of recordings. IMHO, artificial downtuning is a tool for live usage. And I'd adapt my playing to it.
There’s no way to adapt to this random tremolo really, and it is less usable now than it was a few firmware versions before.

I’d very much prefer that this issue is fixed, or at least reverted to the previous state where it was better.

Recordings are certainly better than people’s opinions.

Wait, you don’t even own a Fractal but have already decided the VC is unusable based on an internet recording? 🤦🏻

The VC was never designed to replace a downtuned guitar, it’s a work around for times you don’t have said guitar with you.

After actually playing the VC with the latest FW beta I think it’s totally usable live if you only need a semitone or 2.. definitely an improvement.

CPU load seems to affect the ‘quality’ of the VC, a simple preset with the CPU <50% sounds great to me, but with my kitchen sink preset (~70%) it has a few artifacts, but I would think those would get buried in the mix.

I don’t use the VC so I have no skin in the game.

I’ll find out Tuesday night in a band mix at practice, I’ll give it a go instead of actually using my downtuned guitar and see if my band mates can tell the difference.

I have an FM3, the problem is about the same on all devices, possibly more severe on the ones with less power.

I know what it is.

It was much more usable in earlier firmware versions, that’s the problem.

That is kind of obvious. People who don’t really need it are quite adamant in attacking posts about the problem.

Now can we please stick to the topic? The changelog says there’s a pitch shifter improvement, the tremolo issue is still here. Transposing songs, adapting, your bandmates’ opinions, whether or not you can use it in your rehearsal - all of these are interesting topics maybe but separate from this particular issue.

Should be noted he's using the Notes setting, when playing chords.
Good catch. In the FM9 thread though, Cliff posted a recording with the same problem, I guess he used correct settings for what he was trying to demonstrate. Also, I don't know whether it changed with this last update, but those settings have been hit and miss.

After spending a couple hours using the updated VC, I think I prefer Pitch Tracking set to Chords and Tracking Adjust set to the new default of 3.30 (Pitch Tracking turned off actually sounds pretty good too). For the most part, I use the VC for songs set to -1 or -2. With these settings, the updated VC seems pretty stable.
