Axe-Fx III always boots on preset 000 instead of last used preset

Hi everyone,
I’m experiencing a strange behavior with my Axe-Fx III.
Every time I power on the unit, it always boots on preset 000, no matter which preset was active when I powered it off.
Steps to reproduce:
  • Select any preset (for example preset 010)
  • Power off the Axe-Fx III
  • Power it back on
  • The unit always loads preset 000
I have already updated / reinstalled the firmware, but the problem still persists — nothing changed after the firmware update.
On my previous Fractal unit (FM3), the device would always boot on the last used preset, which is what I expected here as well.

My questions:
  • Is this normal / intended behavior on the Axe-Fx III?
  • Is there a global setting to enable “power on last used preset”?

If you change a global setting and reboot, does the setting persist or is it reverted to default?

If it doesn't persist then as Cliff says it's likely the battery.

Otherwise, curious if it does this with nothing else connected (no midi, no USB)?
 
Yes. It's a standard CR2032 coin cell battery in a holder on the motherboard. Pop the old one out and install the new one. Takes longer to get the top cover off than to actually swap it.

I tried this, but unfortunately it didn’t bring any results.
The global setting does not persist after reboot and is reverted to default.
I also tested the unit with nothing else connected (no MIDI, no USB), and the issue is still present
 
There is also an issue where the tuner settings are not saved.
I set the Mute option to Output or Input, save the settings, and everything works correctly. However, after rebooting the unit, the Mute setting is no longer assigned to either Output or Input and is reset

Tuner settings are part of system settings, so no surprise there...

I think you need to contact support.
