Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 7.00 Public Beta #2

Just yesterday my neighbor & his friend, both players, were waxing poetic over the virtues of tubes. After hanging around here the past few years, I just had to smile and nod :)
Well I'll will second that, after all, if it wasn't for the virtues of tubes we wouldn't have the virtues of virtual tubes. :D:eek::cool:
Which are instantly optimizable, swappable & biasable. Not to mention, just like Rock & Roll, Never Gunna Die!

The Plexis will be even better in the release version. I found a mistake today in the way the B+ was routed into the preamp. Essentially the B+ voltage was not routed to the cathode follower stage properly so the preamp wasn't compressing nearly enough when the power supply sagged. Makes a substantial difference.

I dialed up a 50W Plexi patch using one of the new IRs that will be included and got the best tone I've ever gotten from a modeling device. Heck, maybe the best tone I've gotten from any device, real or modeled.

See Cliff, these types of statements are not safe for your customers. A statement like that can cause shortness of breath, internal bleeding, and Viagra-type tendencies. :)

This!
I recently joined a new band and have been relying heavily on the 50W Plexi. I can't imagine what could make it sound any better but I know better than to doubt Cliff Chase.

Haven't had a chance to test Q7.xx yet (am waiting for the final release and will adjust presets at that time) but reading through the thread it looks like it's shaping up to be a stellar release with some big changes and improvements.

NOTE: This firmware has significant changes to the core algorithms.

Love it...very exciting...

Ohhh yea....nice!!

Never mind the virtues of tubes, I like the virtual tubes!

[I have a habit of swapping out the preamp and poweramp tubes in the Axe and seeing what happens...for example I liked putting a EL84 into the Silverface Double Verb.] ;)

Cliff -

Can you tell me more about what cabinet you used with this new Plexi that gave you the best tone you ever heard? And, is it only a obvious difference if you change the sag control? In your opinion Cliff, would this new Plexi Patch/IR be very good for capturing Yngwie Malmsteens early tone such as heard on the Japan Phil Harmonic Orchestra DVD???

Not sure that qualifies as his early tone since that DVD was like 20 years after the first Alcatrazz record....

Yeah q7 translates....sounds bitchen in a big PA. Side note make sure the Axe-Fx power cable is seated right since that will give you a midi time out in MFC...lol

@FractalAudio i just noticed that the ac30tb cf comp value now defaults to 0, as opposed to 75.7 in previous official fw's. Is that correct for the new modeling algo or is it supposed to be fixed and set back to where it was?
Thanks

Looking forward to the update in view of what Cliff said about the Plexi 50. My main tone for ages has used the Plexi 50 normal and I found it very harsh in this beta so have started looking at other alternatives. Would be nice to go back to the Plexi as nothing quite comes close.

I have been playing guitar since I was a young teenager in 1982 and straight out of high school I went on the road with my Rock Band and played the club circuit for a little over eight years and then stayed around locally and have been playing ever since. I have never seen a piece of gear do what this product does and how it keeps me so excited day after day and constantly changes and gets better. Amazing! I've said it before Cliff but it's like you are feeding us Crack! Thanks for the addiction, you are a true pioneer and very smart business man.

There's a thread about this, I made the suggested adjustments and it made the ac30 sound much better.

I hope you tell us what that combo is when the firmware is released because I want to try it out!

Something I noticed: I need less gain (which is a good thing). I haven't had time to spread out and check out a bunch of the other amp models yet, just got done practice, just thankful for the updated firmware. The Axe FX is so much fun, makes practice fun (some of it!)
