AX8 Input Level

Hey all,

My two main guitars are a stock Ibanez Jem7VWH (Evolution pickups) and Jackson EMG 81/85, in order to not get the red input led to light on reasonably strong power chords I have to crank that input pad setting to +12db, from 0db, does this seem right given the "high output" of these pickups?

I followed the manual for setting it, but unlike the AxeFX, the AX8 states increasing this pad increases noise so I want to be sure I haven't missed something, would welcome any feedback!

From the manual, p17:

"It’s OK to “tickle” the red LED once in awhile—it actually has five levels of brightness with only the brightest indicating actual clipping."

So you might try lower to +6dB pad and see how often the red is lighting (and how bright).

Technically yes, increasing the pad is increasing the noise floor (lowering the SNR), but the same is true of the Input Levels on the Axe, even though that manual isn't quite as direct in explaining it.
