AM4 + VP4 : Example Rig

What'cha got that Swollen Pickle in the mix for? ;) j/k

That's a great demo for both units. I like the way you showed the cable hookup and detailed screen navigation.

@2112 in your video you show how to connect using trs to dual ts cables but I noticed in input you have black in L/MONO and red in R for the input and then you did RED for L/MONO and black for R for the output.

I always do it like this.

TIP (black cable) L/MONO and RING (red cable) RIGHT from the VP4 INPUT to the SEND on the AM4.
TIP (black cable) L/MONO and RING (red cable) RIGHT from the VP4 OUTPUT to the RETURN on the AM4.

Did I connect mine wrong or does it matter?

It'll just flip the L/R channels.

I think your method is correct, you'll have the left channel go to the left and right to right whereas mine will be backwards. I honestly didn't even notice I'd done that in my vid.

I wonder which way is better. Going from VP4 to the inserts of AM4. Then AM4 out to the axefx 3.

Or doing spdif out of am4 to vp4 spdif in and vp4 outputs to axefx 3.

VP>>AM4 or AM4>>VP4, is not a matter of "better" but a different approach with different results.

But using SPDIF has the advantage of skipping AD/DA.
In the 2nd scenario even skipping that twice, when also connecting the VP4 to Axe-Fx via SPDIF.

Looking forward to futzing with this configuration…seems to me we’ve been chasing this since @Admin M@ dubbed AX8-FX8 the “killer app”. Arrives tomorrow , FedEx willing.

why would you ever do this and not get an FM9?

Money for some, still cheaper for am4 and vp4 together and saves some money this way if bought new which helps the company when someone buys new obviously.

Also portability for many.

Some people like the idea of only using few blocks so they don't have option paralysis

Plenty of other very verified reasons :)

A wise man once said "It's easier to chain an AM4 to a VP4 than it is to chainsaw an FM9" or something like that
