All Hail the Mighty Butch Walker

I just watched the Silent Stage episode with @Cooper Carter. He mentioned they may share some of @BDubs presets at some point. Thanks for letting me know about it.

The podcast was amazing, I totally was shocked when Cooper swore lol. But I learned a ton from it and I could listen for hours more. Steves podcast has been awesome so far.

Has anyone been able to get either the Matchless or the Bassman to sound like that? I never have. If you've been able to, please share your secrets.

Why are people so hooked on something that's going to sound completely different on their own playback system using a completely different instrument with a completely different set of hands? Go forth and discover the saturation switch, people! :p

I was curious because I've never been able to get the Matchless or Bassman to sound like his presets.

True, but would still love to get my hands on those :D Love watching that butch video! Think I watched it 3 times so far lol.

After watching the video I am also in the camp of wanting to get ahold of Butch’s presets. These aren’t even the normal tones I’d use, but I think the insight would be phenomenal. He should do a tone class or something.

Sidebar, he produced Sevendust’s album Seasons, which aside from the guitar tone and lack of leads is arguably their best album, and damn near perfect from a song writing perspective (fore-mentioned lack of leads aside).

Also... I wanna see how he gets that Leslie sound, I can never get a rotary sound in a preset that I like to use. Its always either TOOO present or too buried.

I just finally tried the saturation switch. 😳
Why does “on” sound like “off” and “On (Ideal)” sound like a million bucks?

Because that's how real saturation switches work.

Plug into any amp that has a saturation switch, play it for a bit, and then turn on saturation. You'll get more distortion, but the volume will go down. On a real amp, you have to turn it up after you throw the saturation switch. The "Ideal" setting turns it up for you.

Because that's how the typical Jose clipping stage works. It adds a particular type of saturation by using diodes. But in turn, you get a volume drop, so you'd normally compensate by increasing the master volume of the amp. But in Fractal land the ideal setting maintains your volume.

Ah thanks. I honestly didn’t hear a difference when it was ON. On most Friedmans with a SAT switch, it’s more gain and much quieter.
Also, I didn’t realize this saturation was the same as the “Jose SAT” Dave has been doing.

Well for me it just saves me a lot of time. And gives me a good starting point.
