Airstep stand-in switches hold

I thought the functionality of the stand-in switches only works with switches connected directly to the two pedal jacks on the FM3.
With the air step you probably just can use the, in the FM3 (user-)defined, MIDI commands. Although the airstrip by itself has some hold functions assignable maybe?

Yep, and the airstep has footswitch output witch I connect to the fm3. Airstep also have hold function if you like. I use those to eg switch between airstep presets.

The problem I have is that I can’t seem to be able to use both tap and hold on the same stand in switch (fm3) from one button of Airstep. (As you can with a normal on off button connected to the fm3)

Is the Airstep’s footswitch output momentary or latching? Stand-in functions need a momentary switch.

Can it be that it’s always open?
The options from airstep is:
  • On momentary (selected)
  • on latching
  • off latching

Can you select always open in FM3?
(Can’t seem to find anything about it)

So, “to trigger hold, tap works fine.”

Sorry. Still don’t get it.
”It can do both and none work for me (to trigger hold, press works fine)”

To clarify - the airstep can send both momentary or latching:
  • On-momentary (selected)
  • on-latching
  • off-latching
Neither is working to achieve a hold on the fm3 standin switch. Though press action on airstep achieve tap on the standin switch on the fm3

He's saying press works fine and hold does not.

Another way you could try to achieve what you are looking for is to just use MIDI. For example I recently programmed my Airstep to be able to do tap tempo and activate tuner from the same button. Press for tap tempo and hold for tuner.

The way I did it was that on press two MIDI commands are sent: one for tap tempo and one for tuner off. On long press (hold) I send only the tuner on MIDI CC. This way I can hold to activate the tuner whereas tap just tap tempos and deactivates tuner.

Afaik the Airstep does not support a toggle type hold functionality so you could have hold once to do one thing and hold again to do another but for my needs this works well enough.

Okay, now I get it.

When you set up your Stand-in switch, did you assign both the Tap and the Hold function? You have to explicitly assign both.

Hi Joakim
First go to the I/O setup of the FM3: Setup -> I/O -> Pedal and set the Switch x Tip Polarity and the Switch x Ring Polarity to NORMALLY OPEN / MOMENTARY MAKE.

In the Airstep you have to assign two message to the switch. Let's say you want to use the Tip of Airstep’s footswitch output 1:
  • Message 1: Press, Footswitch, 1-Tip, On-Latching
  • Message 2: Release, Footswitch, 1-Tip, Off-Latching

Have fun...

Thx Kema! Just what I needed and it works great!
Thx Laxu! I've added it just like you now and it works great as well!
Thx Rex! Yup, both was setup.

Airstep is such a versitail tool! This is how I now use it.

Airstep preset 1: (tap/hold)
A = Tap tempo/Tuner (midi)
B = Airstep Preset +/-
C = fm3 Preset +/- (midi)
D = fm3 View +/- (stand-in switches)
E = fm3 Layout +/- (stand-in switches)

Airstep preset 2: (tap/hold)
A =
B = Airstep Preset +/-
C =
D = fm3 Bank - (stand-in switches)
E = fm3 Bank + (stand-in switches)

So haven't decided for A, C in airstep preset 2 yet, and not using hold on standin switches for bank+ or bank- yet, since I wanted them on two different switches on the airstep. If airsetp would have some kind of wait message you would be able to program separate airstep switches for same stand in switch, one for tap and one for hold. But it doesn't have that yet at least.

Adding my config for airstep below in pictures. First preset in this message

All the best,
Joakim
PS I also have one expression pedal for effects e.g. wah and one for global volume connected to the airstep DS

EDIT - For airstep tuner and tap tempo on same, I had to change to release on the tap tempo so it wasn't fired when doing hold to access tuner. That's the way the airstep work.

Little OTC - Guys that own airstep, could you please check for me if the width of 70mm (2.75 in) is with or without the antenna? I f without, what is the exact dimension. Thanks a lot.
