Advice? FM3 too bright in ears/PA compared to studio monitors (with video)

Don't know if the OP is still around....

But I tested the preset with a Strat, and while it sounds pretty good, it's very, very bright, even at low volume.
It's the infamous piercing JCM800 sound.

There's NO way a soundman puts this through a loud FOH without low-passing the signal.

So, yes, Fletcher-Munson. Start at the source and dial back bright cap / treble / presence etc. in the amp.

BTW, nice amps in the OP's room...

That's essentially how I practice on my own now (through the entire in-ear rig, with non-EQ's/raw sound from the FM9. But I always end up turning the EQ back on for band rehearsals/gigs. I'm only a little over a year into the in-ear scene, and I would never want to give it up. But it's a painful process when you grew up standing next to a screaming halfstack.

But every day with FM9 is a new discovery. I was shocked to find out that my favorite "real" speaker cabinet, is now my least favorite IR (4x12 loaded with 25w greenbacks - sounds glorious at 5 feet, but like trash at 5 inches). Maybe I just need to capture my own IR's from 5 feet away, hahaha - surely that will solve everything!
Borrowed from the automotive classic cars crowd: "There is no replacement for (air in this case) displacement. :)

That wind feeling from a cranked half stack/stack sure is awesome, but my ears (and wife) are thanking me for lowering the volume.

Haha. For sure. Volume is a definite factor, but it just occurred to me that it might be running in the opposite direction for me.

I've played through a 100-watt plexi into a 412 greenback cab - or a similar rig - for more than 35 years before O adopted my FM9. I wouldn't say I played super loud though, my plexi never broke up - I had to get all my gain from pedals. It wa just loud enough to be heard with a drummer.

But at the same I was playing big amps, I was also worried about proteecting my hearing - so I was doing it all with earplugs 100% of the time. I thought I hated it back then, but it just occurred to me I am obviously trying to crawl back into that occluded & muffled headspace.

Maybe I should just keep at it, and over time maybe nudge the EQ shelf up a little bit at a time. Either that, or maybe just fire up the plexi again - without the earplugs - and blow my ears out for a bit? lol.

I didnt realize this was an old thread. I just loaded the preset and found the same thing. Very bright but not ear piercing through my monitors at a loud volume.
I turned off the bright switch, added some mids, bass, and gain.
