Wish Ability to select which DynaCabs are loaded on the hardware

Maybe it doesn't have to be all or nothing. There could be some number of dynacabs (but fewer than now) that are always loaded (and can be used in factory presets) and some room for users to select which other dynacabs are loaded.
Weird limitation to have on factory presets, but maybe a viable way to go maybe.

I get your thinking. But factory cabs — like factory presets — should be uniform and constant. You need to be able to count on them being there. Especially if you're sharing.

"Hey, guys! I'm posting my new Super Nut Twister preset so you can check it out. It's made with factory cabs, so nothing extra to buy!"

"But I don't have that factory cab installed."

"Well, you could tell me what cabs you do have installed. Then I could use one of those cabs and tweak the rest of my preset to match the sound as closely as possible."

"Hey, me too! But I don't have that other factory cab that you used."

"Hey, me three!"

"Well, you could tell me... ah, screw it!

:)

+1 again so I guess its +2 for me lol.

But I can see how switching out DynaCabs could be an issue. If I remember correctly, all/most factory presets have Dynacabs in Channel A. So if the DCab slot is replaced with, say, an Ampeg 8 x 10, the factory preset that uses that DCab slot, it will be the Ampeg Cab even though its supposed to be a Fender Twin 2 x 10 lol. Or the cab slot would be empty.

Also, I'd imagine that if re-adding the original DCab, would mic placement go back to its specific placement in the factory preset, or would the mic placement go to default settings? Lot of things to consider.

I guess the band-aid solution would be to switch to the channel B cab which, if I remember correctly, is a legacy cab on all/most factory presets. That could be a backup in case the dynacab isn't the correct one or its empty.

Overall, if FAS comes up with a solution to this, I would LOVE to be able to switch out Dynacabs. I would certainly be more inclined to purchase Dynacab packs.

Two different things. Purchased packs are not/cannot be loaded in to the hardware. They require CabLab to export the IR and load in a User Cab bank. The ability to change factory DynaCabs would not change this.

I understand having to use Cab Lab for purchased DCabs, but isn't that the point of this Wish list? To switch out DCabs regardless if they're purchased or factory?

The wish came about when the FM3 tapped out for cab space. It’s aimed at being able to exchange a non used cab with another that would be available on the Axe and FM9 but not the FM3.

Ahhh ok! yeah that would be cool

Purchased packs contain exponentially more data than those on the unit. You are free to wish for whatever you would like, but have realistic expectations. A wish cannot bypass hardware limitations.
Understood! I never purchased a dynacab pack so I'm not aware how much extra data is needed for it. I don't know the unit's limitations either. Again, just wishful thinking. FAS has surprised us before. Maybe they can squeeze in purchased DCabs in to the FM3 :)

Picture the onboard cabs and all the available mic positions. Now rotate it 360 degrees. The onboard cabs have only 4 mics. Full packs have more mics along with the full rotational coverage, so the pack is much larger than the onboard Dynacabs.

Not sure how the space to location ratio works but could they free up any useable amount of space by reducing the IR user slots?....I have alot of those open even though i have plenty of IR's already....not sure how that could/couldn't work

I single IR is a few KB. Dynacab packs are hundreds of MB.

As long as this reallocation is optional, and doesn't break factory presets, I'm maybe ok w it, maybe.

But if it breaks presets on AxeChange or posted here or on YouTube that's not great. The factory cabs have been more or less baked in, you can count on them existing. Changing that is somewhat of a big deal.

I'm sympathetic to the desire for more Dynacabs, I'd like that too, but the yield there is pretty low, as has been pointed out.

The packs are too big for sure. But what if you could extract an onboard pack to install on the unit. Same 4 mics and same IR positions that the onboard cabs have. This would allow you to use a pack you bought on the unit.

Still a lot bigger than normal irs, but maybe workable. I don't know how big that'd be.

If it's a practical idea, ideally that mini-pack would be included in purchased pack downloads.
