    short AC/DC clip

yeah kinda weird using a MB for Mal's tone...but I really don't pay attention to the amp model labels in the Ultra so much as the sound and gain structure each one puts out and the MB sounded close to my ear so I used it...but you're right, its sacrilege thru and thru: digital model of MB for...

Creating realistic patches and Use of EQ

IME, the EQ is where the difference is between creating a good patch and a great one. I use a graphic EQ after my amp and a parametric EQ after my cab. The VAST majority of the time I spend tweaking my patches is in the EQ. Its brutally tedious and time-consuming to tweak and experiment in...

    AxeFx and StroboRack tuner

I have one patch designated as the tuner on my midi pedal...that patch does nothing on my AXE except route the signal to the FX loop...the FX loop send goes to the peterson input...the FX loop return goes to the peterson out...this makes tuning muted.

    short AC/DC clip

I play Malcolm in an AC/DC tribute band http://www.kcdcrocks.com A friend of mine was asking about why I use an AXE FX instead of an old-school plexi with a 4x12. I told him that I felt I could approximate the tone with my AXE well enough and that its more portable, consistent, volume-friendly...

Better than Reality - Axe-FX Can Be Like Optimized Reality

Re: Better than Reality - Axe-FX Can Be Like Optimized Reali I'm with ya SP...I think the AXE has the ability to be "optimized reality" too...so long as you're willing to spend lots of time tweaking and experimenting (which I am...in fact let's be honest: most players with GAS are really just...

I use my AXE live...are the Red Wirez easy to load up?

I only use my AXE for live gigs...I love my tone, but you know the constant vice of guitar players is to be fiddling about and experimenting with tone. So I'm intrigued by the Red Wirez but I haven't previously had any experience with IR's...can they be used for live use if I store them in the...

    FRFR Quad Box

well its all funny and everything...and I get the FRFR thing as I use one...but as a tribute band for AC/DC (www.kcdcrocks.com) it'd be right as the rain to have a quad box or full stack look while still running FRFR on stage and to FOH.

    FRFR Quad Box

huh...interesting thread. About my only complaint on the AFX with FR is the look...you just can't beat how cool a half stack or full stack looks on stage...hope to see pics and hear more about this quad box FR

    I finally get the presets!

yeah, well that's the beauty of filtertrons...with that low output you can crank up the gain on your amp higher yet still retain a cleaner overall output. The higher the amp gain the more sustain and punch you get...but having the low output pups still allows a cleanish crunch that is just on...

    I finally get the presets!

I crank mine...my pups are ultra low output filtertrons (4.8K)...I rarely see the red light come on and the AXE sounds beautiful. In the end, there's no rules with the AXE...whatever sound goods and feels good is the "right" way to do it.

Question about using an external tuner with the Axe-FX

For me, its 6 of one, half a dozen of the other...both great tuners, but my other guitar player and my bass player both use the Turbo Tuner so that's why I switched...we want all 3 guitars to use the same model tuner for our live shows.

Question about using an external tuner with the Axe-FX

Thanks for doing this...I followed your lead yesterday and did this for my rack too. I've been using the Strobo and recently switched to the Turbo Tuner. The AXE tuner isnt as accurate as either of these IME. I've struggled to figure out how to mute volume while tuning and the FX loop is the...

FRFR - I think I'm just missing the grandness of the concept

I think this is the key to making FRFR work for anybody. Just as in traditional guitar amps and cabs we've all tried out different brands and models, so too in FRFR its prolly a good thing to check out some of the several available options and A/B them to find "yours". Speaking only from my...

Atomic Reactor FR vs Verve 12ma

I use a single (mono) 12MA for live shows the past year...when I setup, I plug in the 12MA to my rack power and fire up my patches, make sure my guitar is tuned up and that my midi is working, etc. Then when I'm done on stage getting my gear put together, I turn my 12MA off...of course my...

    FRFR in 412 Enclosure

Right about not being deep enough...I agree that a standard Marshall cab wouldn't have enough space for the Verve; but you probably missed the 13" depth on the top left of my drawing? My idea would require a custom built enclosure, not an empty Marshall cab. By building it custom, the depth...

    FRFR in 412 Enclosure

I've threatened to have an enclosure made of lightweight wood (maybe pine) that resembled the 30x30 Marshall 4x12 cab. I want the look of rock-n-roll with a 4x12 but I love my AXE with FBT for tone. The enclosure wouldn't need a back on it which would lighten things up even more. Put the...

Lost Confidence with the FBT Verve 12ma

I have 2 FBT 12MA's that I beat the shit out of on a regular basis...had them for a while now...I think I was one of the first to get on the FBT train...I've had no issues at all and I'm extremely happy...so much so, that I've no interest in trying out any other gear (including the Fratomic).

Verve 12ma volume: Is it enough?

Loud enough...oh hell yes. I have my programmable output levels set high and run my output knob between 12:00 and 3:00 and I can never turn up my 12ma past 1/2 way...it gets too loud and starts to drown out my other band mates. Even on big stages a single 12ma works great for me and we're a...

New idea for a W/D rig!

That would work friggin beautifully. My only subtle critique would be the use of the Palmer...I just have never dug the way they sound but that's just personal preference...I know many guys use them. As an alternative though, you could use an A/B switch to send signal from your guitar to...

Amp & guitar cab VS FRFR set up?????

I don't think FRFR necessarily sounds better than a tube power amp with a full stack if A/B'd side by side...but thru FOH the FRFR does this: 1) sounds as good as a tube amp with mic'd cab - in fact I would argue that going direct probably sounds better in most cases than mic'd cabs 2) FRFR is...

Negative Aspects of your powered FR cabs(JBL, RCF, QSC, FBT)

I use the FBT VERVE 12MA and love it...but in a perfect world, I wish it had a power light on the front of the cab, an input signal level meter, a locking IEC jack and I wish it had more room between the XLR output and the inset panel wall. I put a short Mogami XLR pigtail on my XLR output to...

    Anyone Running Mono Output

My sound engineer explained this to me several months ago when I was on the fence about running my AXE in stereo: On a PA at a venue both right and left speakers output the same signal so that people sitting on either side of the room hear (roughly) the same FOH mix. If PA's were run in...

    Anyone Running Mono Output

I run mono...all my patches are written for mono...most PA's are mono. I use a single FBT 12ma live with a single out to the board (which makes it easy for the sound guy)...my FOH always sounds bad-ass and consistent from venue to venue. when I'm wanking around at home in my guitar cave I...

12ma gain vs. Axe output vol.

I like running my AXE output at around 2:00 (2/3 of the way turned up) and then running my single FBT as needed for volume but usually no lower than 12:00 noon (half way up). For the uber-small stages or small pubs I be-grudgingly turn the AXE output down a little bit but I try to never let...

QSC HPR 122i vs Verve 12ma

man, that is the best statement that I've read...just nails it and should be required reading for new AXE users. I just bought a second 12ma...gonna experiment with stereo...if I decide to stick with mono I'll have to figure out what to do with an extra 12ma.

QSC HPR 122i vs Verve 12ma

LOL...man, I'm used to carrying a 14-ply, birch 4x12 cabinet that weighs in at 110lbs. For me the QSC weight is not an issue (though I do miss the casters from my 4x12...maybe a cart is in my future?). I was just surprised by the weight of the FBT given its small size...it is quite the load...

QSC HPR 122i vs Verve 12ma

ooooh, interesting stuff Jay. I'm not using a factory patch...no enhancer in the signal chain just a simple patch: amp>GEQ>cab>PEQ>filter. Still, maybe something in that is causing some problems (phase issues) when in mono? I'll experiment some more and see what I can find out, thanks for the...

    Live use routing question

I'm starting to wonder if my sound guy didnt presume the XLR was mic level instead of line level...arent the AXE outputs at line level? QSC HPR 122i vs Verve 12ma

I use a QSC HPR 122i with my Ultra. It sounds good, but there is something a bit harsh in the upper freqs. I ordered an FBT Verve 12ma from Eric at RMC last week...should have it this week...when it arrives, I'll put up some opinions about how the 2 compare in A/B testing...stay tuned.

    Live use routing question

I read in the manual that the output can be +18dB...in fact I have a mid sized PA setup in my guitar lair/rehearsal room at the house and the AXE does clip it if I turn up more than about half. But at half, that's plenty of input signal to make the QSC thump hard. At the gig Saturday, even 1/4...

    Live use routing question

I was really hoping for this to work but the sound guy couldnt handle any more output from the AXE than to have the knob turned up only about 1/4 of the way (like 9:00)...and even with the QSC cranked up, this just wasnt enough stage volume. I'll order up a Radial JDI and give that a...

    Live use routing question

I used my AXE at a gig last night for the first time...it went well with one minor problem: When I turned down the output level knob low enough for the sound engineer to get the proper signal at the board, then I didnt have enough signal left to get enough stage volume. I was using the QSC HPR...
