    Cool Story Bro (CSB)

Yesterday at work I got a call from a guitarist in a semi-known band in Sweden (Dead By April), asking about the Axe-FX. While I was talking to him, I could here the "another call" beep in the ear, but since I think it's rude to put someone on hold, I finished the call (he's coming to test my...

I think I've found what I'm looking for.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/315378/gubbtrash/Pungterish_FarbrorThrash.mp3 It's my main sound, straight out of the AFX. Quad tracked with my mahogany/emg Futura EX. Epiphone FTMFW! ;) I think it has everything that I like in a guitar sound. Great chunk, great definition and great "string presence"...

New fun with an old idea. LV drive - > Big Hair -> custom IR

I've been going through pretty much all amps and I've finally come to my senses for my future metal project I'm working on. I'm getting tired of the "typical" Vintage30-5150 sound, and realized that my dream sound is an old-school Boosted-hot rod-Marshally type of trash sound. So, I went back to...

Short BigHair/Recto Red quad tracked brutal combo.

Yeah, as the title says, I've used a tweaked version of Hunters Big Hair "Meathead" patch and blended its tightness with the Recto Red for added "wallness" (ooh new word, how inventive I am). The only problem I have at the moment is that I have about ten favourite amps, and I can't really decide...

Biggest show in my life. >150,000 people (400,000 capacity).

It's the Przystanek Woodstock 2009, a free festival arranged each year. We played there in 2008 and the audience voted us for "best band at Woodstock", so we got invited this year too, to accept the price. ;) It's the 15th anniversary of the Polish version, and the 40th anniversary of the...

    Pop-metal-random-something... ;) Testing a single SM57

http://files.getdropbox.com/u/315378/stuff/Recto_Red.mp3 I was playing around with a single SM57 on the EnglXXL, trying to get some sort of Generic mic position, that "sounds good, but not too extreme". I flipped through some amps in the AFX (7.18) and stopped at the Recto Red, a bit surprised...

    7.16 vs 7.17

I recorded some stupid riffs and reamped through the same preset, before and after the 7.17 update. IMHO the differences were minimal, but it felt... more tubey, for lack of a better word. I have some tube amps (Diezel Herbert, Elmwood M60, Krank Rev+, Krankenstein+, 5150, and a broken Rev+...

There are Bullys in the Parade, and they're downtuned!

We were called "The European answer to Rage Against The Machine" back in the days when we sold 500,000+ albums. Journalists even tried to make a "RATM vs. Clawfinger", but we just laughed it off. Ah, sweet memories. Great fun to record this little tune. It's not the same song (copyright stuff)...

Stockholm around '90 in the Sunlight studio. Yes!

Fooled around with the Metal Zone. It sure doesn't work with any amp but anyway... ;) Found a nice Marshall 1960-SM57 IR that I used. I don't know who made them so I have to look that up before I share them. The bass is a Epiphone 5-string SG-3 -> Rat Dist -> Recto red -> Ampeg IR. Drums are...

    Slayer 1986 type of fun!

Me and a buddy sat and had some fun trying to emulate different sounds from albums. Recognize this? http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/315378/stuff ... _Jocke.mp3 The guitar is an 7-string Ibanez RG-style (one of the Meshuggah customs) with a Lundgren pickup. The fun part is that it's two different...

    Different voicing, LOG type.

I read the "Lamb of God tone not in my Axe-fx?" preset thread and thought that it was a challenge. It was. I went through all cab impulses I could find, and ended up miking the Texas Heat Speaker in the Krank/Rev hybrid cab with a Sennheiser 421. It's the second MC2+ model -> FX-return on the...

    I had to make another....

...loose, noisy, non-perfect, Mesa-AxeFX-fun tune. I didn't have time to finish it, but what the hell. Same gear used as in the "Something completely different" thread and the Thrash/Speed thread. I added the tape distortion plug on the drum bus, to get them as "brown" as possible, so the...

    Something completely different....

I read a thread at the Sneap forum about a loose Rectifier sound, and got some inspiration. It's EXACTLY the same gear as the http://www.fractalaudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=4303 thread, but I used a Rectifier without a boost. Did some "loose tweaks" and had a blast. Same guitar, bass and...

Thrash/speed metal with a Lundgren M6 equipped LP Baritone.

I'ts been a while since I've posted anything. I've scored a new job, and am able to borrow stuff, like these new JBL LSR4328P with the matching sub woofer. I think i like them. Little bit too much high end, but nothing a mastering can fix. I've been fighting with some weird mid frequencies that...

In the room with crappy quality and sloppy playing but...

I made this little thing the other day. The camera is a regular cheap digital camera with the possibility to record movies too. The quality is terrible, but that's somehow the point, because the character is there. The info on the youtube page tells the whole story...

A little different approach than my usual mayhem...

..but it's still mayhem music wise. It's the Axe-FX Recto model that I modified. I realized that my distortion was mostly preamp gain, and got remarks that it sounded like a modeler. Yeah I know. So for this test, I used more Master volume to get some more low mid action going and balanced it...

Speaking of Metallica and MOP sound.

Ok, it's no Axe-FX, but since we're been listening to bjoo's excellent sounds, I just needed to put this up. It's done by several people on the Sneap forum as a reaction to the crushed mastering of the Death Magnetic album. http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/315378/stuff ... uppets.mp3 And here's the...

    KranK IR's are up.

Realized that I can post it here, since it actually contains audio. A guy from the Sneap forum (Keregioz) asked me to reamp a riff as a test to see how the AxeFX sounded, and his preferences was a KranK sound from a Nevermore album, so I made this. It's a tweaked New Recto with the tonestack...

    KranK IR's is up.

Same place as usual. Read the WTF.txt for an explanation of the cab since it's a hybrid. Quad tracked: Here's the Rev+ with an AKG C214. Same speaker but an SM57. High pass at 60Hz, Low pass at 12kHz. A guy from the Sneap forum asked me to reamp a riff just to see how the AxeFX sounded, and...

Fat heavy reamped riff 7-string metal kill death (meta tags)

I've reamped a short riff as a test to see if the 220 kOhm "instrument" input on a cheap M-audio USB audiocard would work. For you guys that also spam at the Sneap forum, it's Behindert who plays the guitar and ghetto bass (pitched down guitar). I programmed the drums. Superior2 as usual. I...

    KranK amps

Guys and Gals, I received one Revolution+ and a Krankenstein+ head, together with a hybrid rev/'stein (one cab, 150W Eminence Texas Heat and Eminence Legend V12 speakers in a cross pattern) cab today. Should I do something nice, or send them back?

A Drop C guitar pitched to Gb(F#) in real time.

The sound was the same when I recorded it. Had to play it loud so I couldn't hear the strings. ;) With that low tuning, it turned out a bit Meshuggah (the band and the Yiddish meaning). Note the plucked chord disharmony and the artifacts. Or, the non existent artifacts. We (Clawfinger the band)...

I like v.6.0 too. Beware! Not blues!

I had some fun. ;) I just rolled off the volume for the main intro guitars. The moody thing on top is an ebow with one of the stock presets with enough fx to get the job done. ;) Drums are Superior 2, the rest is Axe-FX. http://www.falstudios.com/Junk/Meat_v.6.0.mp3 Oh, play it loud if...

    Peavey6505 4X12 + IR vs. Mic comparison

I did some IR's today (on the page also - 512 so far) of the Peavey 6505 cab with Sheffield 1200 elements. It got it's own character, and it's smooth as a baby's ass or like this example, aggressive as a raging bull. ;) Normally I'd High/Low pass the guitars a bit, but they are absolutely...

AKG c214 on the XXL and Marshall blended.

For a while now, we've been endorsed by AKG (yay!), and last week I returned some microphones we don't use and recieved some other, including the brand new AKG c214. I immediate tried it on the Engl and Marshall, got good results (according to my taste), took some IR's and made this. They're...

Chug metal with nearly all the amps in the Axe-fx [repost]

Ok, so I've done something stupid but funny. I made a chugg-chugg riff, really simple one, and reamped it through the AFX. It's the same patch, I didn't touch the EQ (LP80hz-HP10Khz), and I didn't touch any controller except Drive (with or without boost). The IR is my own, (it's on...

Now excuse me, I have important things to do. ;) /Jocke
