Exactly very close for me ....the FM9 no doubt kicks ass in the sound dept...but I'm not ready to give up my trusty AX8 yet need to see the preset name bigger for a second or so when changing presets like with the AX8 it's essential for me.... also changing effects on the FM9 looks like 2 moves...

Question For AX8 Users

Myself being in a Classic Rock Cover band the faster I can get in and get out ...the better I like it.....I used to be a Marshall stack guy with a pedaltrain pro board loaded with pedals.......now I carry an AX8 and a QSC K12 and two outs to the board...done no mess no fuss...and the sound guy...

What amp covers the most territory ?

Trainwreck, JVM410 crunch channel, JCM800, Carol-Ann, Friedman Sm Box,or a Fractal Brown FAS...the Fractals are actually pretty good sounding I play the classic's too and I stay mainly on these amps there are many amps in the AXE but to me these amps have the best sounding overtones for classic...

FRFR and a good solo sound...

Hi andyp13.........I use the Q12 all the time no issues although I set My Q12 up with the HF set to FLAT...........you might really want to dig into the IR try setting the Mic to Null it totally colors the sound IMHO....I use an AX8 so it ain't there for me (I believe most Mic's are baked in)...

For those with both AXE FX II XL and AX-8....

Same here I use the AX8 at home to practice so I know what the end result will be on stage... for gigs....I use the AXE FX II to record with.....don't ask....& don't debate me the AXE FX II just sounds better to me in the DAW................it has this smooth kind of silky sound like it...

Dirty amp or Clean with a drive pedal

For a few years I used a Nova System onboard distortion a Bogner red pedal and a Blackstar HT Dual through a Quilter Steelaire rack head and a 2x12 every where I went people said it sounded awesome..........then the AX8 came into existence and the rest is sold off history....

.....umm IMHO...Yamaha DRX 10's should be fine....but I prefer 12" speakers..they sound fuller to me ..u can also seek out some of the cab guys at Atomic ,Matrix.XiTone to name a few....for FRFR solutions..there is plenty feedback in this forum on those..also since you got the AX8 second hand I...

more info please are you running a FRFR or power amp and cab?..try disconnecting everything from the AXE controller,cables everything... plug in headphones is it gone when listening through the headphones?.... .if so something external maybe the issue....................

Fractal Audio DRIVE models: SDD Preamp (based on preamp in Korg SDD-3000)

Yes the mighty SDD Preamp... I use it on just about every preset to push the amp just a little harder ... also it seems to add more sustain....I find that it is really transparent doesn't color the amps sound...works great on clean amps too adds some kick..kind of reminds of A1 steak...

Pitch Shifter on Ax8

I use it all the time ....I set the pitch track to mono....before the amp....for half step downs...and I also put it parallel between the amp and cab....adjust to taste..........like so..hope this helps

For realistic sound nothing beats a Fractal..IMO...and I have tried many other's...Fractal does firmware updates like almost every month sometimes more often giving me free amps, cabs, constant improvements on the sound....I don't see any other manufactures with this kind of Grit to constantly...

Les Paul's....... Watch the Pup height ....my Trad Pro's Pickup's will definitely put noise in the amp if the are raised to high..... In the bridge position, the BurstBucker 3 PAF tone with two slightly overwound coils,..........and I think the Neck is a Classic 57...they got some output....

The IR also plays into this............IMHO the 1x15 Thunderbolt (RW) is a great Clean Amp Cab its dry and to the punch not as hmm word...yeah ....."prissy" as a 2x12 fender Cab...although I like the Fender Cabs for some of my Cleans....

I had a Blackstar HT 60 you have to put a dummy plug or cable into the front..like Cliff said..I ended up taking and old guitar cable and cutting off the end...when I was using a Pod..many moons ago.................of course I'm still trying to figure why people use amps with the AX8 but that's...

I'm going to ask the engineers about the possibility of adding global blocks but having them limited to only the amp, chorus and delay blocks...............................sorrrrrrrry...... I just had to do it..didn't I........................I'll leave quietly now.........I can see the face...

Is it safe carrying the Ax8 with that silver handle?

Don't tell anyone but I have taken mine almost completely apart......gasp!.....cause I'm a computer geek at my day job I like looking under the hood........ ...........................the AX8 is built like tank on the inside all that metal casing does what is supposed to ....the handle is held...

Will it sound like an amp in the room?

Running the AX8 through anything other than a FRFR is like having sex with a condom on it just doesn't feel the same.......your missing all the nuances of all those amps and IR's you have at your disposal..... kind of wasting the capabilities of that magic black box.......and now you are locked...

Filter block at the end of the chain set to +4 db........dedicated to one footswitch in every preset.............works great for me
