    I find the GEQ works well. I set it to about 3db, slightly bump the mids, and roll off the high just a tad. Even if you don't want to EQ the boost, just using the GEQ instead of a null filter and set flat always gives you the option to tweek it later

    I like using GEQ and a 3db boost. I prefer the GEQ to the null filter, because I can boost mids with the EQ if I want, or just leave it flat and it still does the same as a null filter.

    Either the channel on the axe or the channel on the gcp isn't correct I suspect. Also, don't over look the obvious and make sure you are using the right in/out on each side. Out from gcp, to in on axe fx. I can't remember if mine is on omni or not, but if it is, try channel 2 on the gcp instead
