Amp block : Choosing preamp section type and poweramp section type…

… just like we do with the tonestack type. Finding a good high gain tone with an amp is a question of balancing the amount of distorsion/compression coming from the preamp and the one coming the poweramp. When I tweak an amp, I often think it would be cool to test new flavours using a specific...

    Only 2 Amps?

With the Axe FX II going from 1 to 2 amps is possible, the oversamplig rate is also reduced but you know I don't hear any difference and I don't remember anybody complaining about aliasing in this case. As the Axe FX III is more than twice powerful, how could we hear aliasing going from 2 to 4...

    BBE Maximizer ???

Is the presence knob a gain control in IIC+(+)

Hi, On the Mark IIC+(+), B, M, T are gain controls as they are located pre distorsion but what about the presence knob ? Presence knob is usually present at poweramp stage but not always (for example Triaxis). Thanks.

    Mark IIC+ Amp Model Issues

To you, what make the IIC++ sound better than the IIC+ Deep or the IIC+ Dp/bright models ?
  15. VanHalen

    IIC+, GEQ and coupling capacitor

Me too. The Mark IV has the big coupling capacitor but the Mark IV models don't seem to sound fatter than the IIC+ models. Does this mean that the IIC+ models are made with the big capacitor ? Maybe the comparison doesn't make any sense

Fantastic. It's the first time you reveal the insides of the DI method, isn't it ? Thank you. I'll use it when I'll find the time to shoot my binaural IRs :). The thing is : is it really exactly this way the algorithm of the DI method is implemented in the Axe FX II ? No more sophistication ?

  37. VanHalen

Recording tube head with axe fx cab sims?

Amazing ! Will it have special features such as an IR processor ?
  38. VanHalen

    Low Cut, High Cut

No, with the binaural technique, you record what needs to be recorded, it depends only on the situation (from this point of view, there is no difference with a room mic). If you want to capture a cab + ambiance of the room, the length of the IR will depend on the characteristics of this room. In...
  39. VanHalen

    Low Cut, High Cut

I don't understand. There is no problem with stereo cabs in the Axe FX. As binaural IRs catches the reverb/ambiance of the room, they need IRs longer than 180 ms, that's all.
  40. VanHalen

    Low Cut, High Cut

You don't say "No". Do you keep this kind of feature for an incoming Axe FX III ? ;)
  41. VanHalen

    Low Cut, High Cut

Yes exactly, headphones are needed to have this specific feeling of "cab in the room". You can't have it with monitor speakers. This is really a great thing because a lot of users play with headphones. This kind of recording can also be heard through regular speakers but you loose something...
  42. VanHalen

    Low Cut, High Cut

OK, would you encourage producers (or anybody else) to make binaural IRs ?
  43. VanHalen

    Low Cut, High Cut

Follow the link to the other thread I posted. Watch all the Youtube videos (the three ones) and you'll understand. And for those who could be interested in mixing close mic and room mics :
  44. VanHalen

    Low Cut, High Cut

Cliff, if you want to encourage IRs producers to make very long IRs like far-field IRs, please enable the Axe FX to process/shoot very long IRs. I know the CPU usage can be very high but how many percent ? 30 % (OK, it depends on the length of the IR) ? If this is the case, this is not really a...
  45. VanHalen

    Low Cut, High Cut

I don't doubt one minute it is possible. If you want to use traditionnal far-field mics to get this "cab in the room" feeling, you're wrong. The key is to use binaural mics like a Neumann KU100 dummy head. The results are really good and very long IRs can 't be shoot with it. I've already posted...

  53. VanHalen

    Metallica Amp

Whatever the names given to the models, why is there a difference between the IIC+ and the IIC++ ? IIC+ : model of a non simulclass IIC+ IIC++ : model of a simulclass IIC+ ? The model named IIC++ should not be named like this, IMO.

Which version (A or B) of the Mesa Boogie Mark IV in the Axe

Thanks for your answers. I hoped it was a IVa :( If Cliff confirms this, I hope he will give us some tips to have it sounding like a IVa or he will modelize the IVa (maybe it's possible, we have a VH4 blue and a VH4 Silver in the Axe). ;) I think this concerns the lead mode only.
