    Dumb Question.... But Gotta Ask...

    Axe-Fx III Firmware 25.01 Release

I upgraded a few hours ago, and noticed the automatic download was 25.1 - much to my surprise. Thanks for finding and fixing these few issues! I also re-leveled my 16 presets I use for my band, using a decibel meter (kept it to about 87-88 db) for simulated gig Volume. Everything checks out...

    Axe-FX For The Recording Musician

Yes! My existing project was set to 44.1 khz and 16 bit. I set up a new session to 48 KHz/24 bit, and it records and plays back perfectly! However, it looks like changing those settings on an existing recording (44.1 KHz/16 bit) won't allow me to play anything back. Do I have to export each...

    Axe-FX For The Recording Musician

I have tried a couple of times in Bandlab Cakewalk (current version 2024.02) to record via USB direct, or for re-amping, but I always get this message, whether it be from FM9 or AxeFX III. I have a Focusrite Scarlett Solo interface that I usually end up recording with instead, via the processed...

Fractal Noise Reducer vs noiseless single-coils

I use the noise gate as a compromise - I play humbuckers most of the time, but for some cover songs, like U2, I coil split and the the partch used for tone has more noise gate on it. Sounds great to me, but I am not soloing much and don't have to keep long, sustained notes tailing off.

The importance of Mono for live guitar playing

I have been playing stereo since 1991. I own the PA and mixer for my band, and my latest band is just guitar, bass and drums. Our sound man can tell when I kick in a stereo chorus, echo, or enhancer, and says it really opens up the Live sound of the guitar, from when I don’t have any stereo...

Stanley Jordan for Fractal Audio at NAMM, Jan 27

NAMM is a showcase for musical equipment resellers to get them interested in selling different companies’ products. FractalAudio sells direct in the USA, which is why they don’t have an official booth there, but other companies, like Red Sound, do.

    Anti-Fatigue Mat

Playing on cement is killer on the legs without a mat of some sort. I grew up in the family meat shop, and when deboning or trimming meat for long periods of time while standing on the cement floor, my dad always made sure we were standing on the rubber mats to “save our backs” and legs.

I have been running in stereo, to a stereo PA, since 1991. Back then, it was my ADA rig. Since we play in bars that are not huge, the stereo is noticeable to the audience, since I can tell it is stereo with the break music. With the Fractal, I used to run my Martrix CFR12’s in front of me in...
