Axe-Fx III Firmware 25.00 Public Beta (Cygnus X-3)

$10k is a bit steep, does this include an assortment of groupies shipping with the amp? If not, just ship me Alex or Geddy with the amp, that'll do nicely.

    Any bassists using AF3?

I sorta do the same as you. [Dual path]. At first I was splitting the signal into two, sending one path to a bass amp &.cab, the other path into the Tube Pre. I would turn down the bass on the amp and treble on the Tube Pre, a bit clumsy! What I do now, is use the Crossover block to split the...

Ha, ha, sorry for any injuries caused, dudes. But the opportunity was obvious, and I just took it. A bit like a rather dishevelled and somewhat jaded eagle pouncing on a small rodent.

    Axe-Fx III Firmware 24.04 Release

They're very good. I know some people may use the Legacys but I prefer to use the CA3+s when playing a Jem equipped with Gravity Storms. Very nice! And try the clean also.

    5 Minute Tones

Yes I just watched it! I had an FX550 when they came out. Brings back a lot of memories. I wasn't able to run a proper big amp, so I used it to play using headphones. The thing was, I was able to get all these effects without having loads of pedals. What influenced me to get it was I could hear...

    5 Minute Tones

@2112 Leon, similar to what NBGuitar said.... Maybe some crazy sounds like [if you're familiar with them] My Bloody Valentine? That would be a change from the usual rock/metal stuff, maybe even an interesting challenge for you. Probably would involve stacking fuzzes in a crazy way. Maybe also...

Yeah, actually watched it yesterday. Hadn't seen it in a while. Didn't realise cousin Eddie was also the crazy pilot in Independence Day. Anyway, I've got an appointment with my inebriatologist, Mr. J Daniels. Before I go, just want to add you guys have all been so helpful and rather amusing...

    Amp models that surprised you

Meanwhile in a church somewhere, one of the members of the worship music band is playing through a Fortin Satan. And his guitar, built by a local Lu[ci]thier[ian], has serial #666 on the back of the headstock. Rock n' roll!

    Amp models that surprised you

MR Z HWY 66 & DIV/13 CJ. These amps are quite 'thick,' so they make single coils sound fuller and less brittle. Good alternatives if you want a change from a Fender. And remember to get that Nobelium Drive in there!

Will there be a gift of tone for dec 2023?

I would be quite happy with the factory presets being updated in a few months time. Perhaps using the factory Dynacabs for some of them?

    Cliff's favorite amps?

Well, until you get a reply, maybe try some FAS models? That's him modelling amps in an ideal way, how they should be if technicalities and cost weren't a concern. For example, implementing 2nd order filters, which he said would be quite expensive in a real amp.

    Axe-Fx III Firmware 23.03 Beta #1

I'd like to say thanks. When I finished playing with the Nobelium last night, today I thought 'Clean amps good. What would happen with semi-dirty Marshall?' From what you're saying this might work. I was thinking more Plexi. With the clean amps, pedal Drive at 7, was a good tone. It becomes...

Don't Work on Amp Models When You're Overworked and Tired

I suppose we've all had comical gear-related moments. I'm so stupid, it's a good thing I don't write Cliff's release notes. Imagine how puzzled everyone would be when I write something like 'added new model based on an Ampeg STD.' Still, it would allow for the playing of some very catchy...

Who else never really uses the drive block(s)?

That's good, it sounds like a blanket's been lifted off the amp. Sometimes I use drives, sometimes not. I have a liking for a FET Boost in front of a clean amp to make it more spiky. Treble Boost sorts out flubadub, especially in a Bassman. And I prefer the ACB as my favourite in front of a...

What’s your choice of Amp model(s) with best “feel under the fingers” ?

Fascinating! I would never have thought of doing that. I just use them for bass, I am a 50% bass, 50% guitar hybrid creature, haha. Or if you wish to be like Spinal Tap about the festival on the Isle of Lucy, I am 50% guitar, 50% bass. Then out of the dim recesses of memory... Was it not the...

Crikey! I haven't been on for a good few days and I come back to this. I'm very sorry that happened and it's completely out of order. Again- what's Cliff doing now?

Yeah, and when we get it, there will no doubt be people moaning why it can't be used like dual amps. For example, the dexterity of Paul Gilbert alongside the stylings of The Edge, Or '14 Year Old Mehtulhead With Bad Acne At Guitar Centre' alongside 'Joe Pass'. I personally would give that...

    Axe-Fx III Firmware 22.00 Release

Absolutely agree. But, I must say, at the moment I just can't think of anything else the Axe could implement [having played with the latest stuff on the PC] apart from being able to move the virtual mic about. Simulating a studio? Nope, we already have studio reverbs, the preamps in the Cab...

Absolutely Dave! I usually try the betas, but I decided to wait this time, and boy, was it a long wait! Axe-Fx III Firmware 22.00 Release

Ha, ha, that would make sense! We know what sales staff are like. I can even imagine a MV wars, 'this amp is even better because it gets loud at 2, but this one gets loud at 1.' Maybe if Nigel Tufnell was involved, his MV would only go up to '1' and reach the 'sound' at '0.25.' And as you say...

  30. 1

    Axe-Fx III Firmware 22.00 Release

This seems so logical. Given the behaviour of a typical MV, why do they behave that way? Do you think it's an oversight in design? It just makes no sense to have a control that goes to 10 that flubs out at 3. The whole MV thing is confusing. In a lot of amps, it either seems to distort early or...

Mic preamp models vs Neve 1073

Time spent playing guitar vs time spent learning/tweaking AXEFX

More time playing. The only time I would spend time adjusting would be if I recorded something. {Reamping] It would be a case of not changing the amp model, but fine tuning the sound, possibly trying a few alternative cabs. Wouldn't change amp model because the amp models all feel different and...

Axe-Fx Firmware Version 21.00 Public Beta (Beta 1)

Good stuff. That'll be my next port of call... connecting up a p-bass [which is a bassy bass] and putting the bass response of the new beta to the ultimate test. Tonight I was using the S of a Jem into the Fender Twin. Normally when I switch to the neck H it becomes too flubby. Not this time!

I think it's too much. A simple 'why' would have sufficed. Personally, I couldn't have done that. I remember when the really long IRs were implemented, the ones that give the sound of the room. Not only did Cliff manage to put slots for these in the Mark I, I wrote that I wasn't quite...

    The 300th amp model?!

Well, it would be the first time we've had an endangered species on the Axe. It would definitely allow beginners to ape their idols. Might drive Cliff bananas trying to model it, though. Maybe it's available with Silverback speakers. Right turn, Clyde.

This has been an interesting thread with all the suggestions, both comical and serious, especially the Spider. Perhaps that one could be named Curve7 Cockroach on the Axe. Axe-Fx III Factory Presets Release 19.04

Every now and then I discover a 'new' amp, that's quite wonderful. Preset 'Get Your Kicks' [I think it's 111]. Drive 3, bass 4, treble 6, sounds great on the middle pick-up of a [non-Piia] Jem. The thickness of the amp counteracts the brittleness of the single coil.

Same with me. I just can't do what Simeon does with Synth blocks, I don't have enough knowledge for that. Once a patch is selected, it's just a matter of adjusting it for your own guitar. Might find a trippy clean patch, if you have your own clean sound you like, have it saved as a block and...

Dumb moments you've had with the Axe?

Me too! I never fall for the cocked wah scenario but a few times it's been: plug guitar into headphones, plug headphones into input. Then the Spinal Tap moment ensues: -Axe switched on <on a dimed Marshall setting> -First chord is struck -Hello Cleveland! Hello Cleveland!! <silence> -Uh?

When you first plug your guitar in, set 'Input 1/Instrument' level according to your pickups. You don't want it too hot [constantly in the red] or too cold/weak. You may have change this for different guitars, e.g. an Ibanez Universe as opposed to a Strat/Tele with vintage pickups.
