Let's show some love! What is the thing about the Axe3 that made you grin recently?

Two things: 1) When I think about how much I have learned by experimenting with different amps/amp settings. I could never have had the opportunity to try so many different things without a warehouse full of amps and crates full of parts. 2) every time I fire it up, I have MY tone. Not possible...

Yek! Thanks for looking into this. I followed your directions exactly, and it definitely still degrades! Implemented "Simple Delay"

I am using the digital stereo delay type. I have tried everything to minimize the degradation, including the EQ curve. Cliff has to do some stuff "behind the scenes" to make it work as an infinite delay. Speaking of that, If the "simple delay" type is created, stereo please! :)
  18. markyd

    Implemented "Simple Delay"

Turning off the mod helps, but it still degrades over the timeframe that I like to use. Making ambient loops with a delay that is held is very different than using a looper. It is very organic to release the hold and layer new sounds as the old ones fade away slowly. Try it! It is a lot of...

    Implemented "Simple Delay"

Try it. Make a long delay, press hold, and listen for a while. It will lose high end over time, and eventually turn into mush. I am not talking about decay, I am talking about how the signal degrades when held. Cliff talked about this a little in this thread...
  21. markyd

    Implemented "Simple Delay"

Since the current delays degrade over time when held, my wish would be to have a "simple delay" created that has no modulation or other parameters that cause the delay repeats to degrade when held for long periods of time.

Axe-Fx III 16.00 Beta 12 "Cygnus" Firmware - Public Release Candidate

The Legend 100 doesn't sound anywhere near as good as the Cali Leggy to me. Crank the depth control, and there is my favorite tone! The depth control on the Legend 100 just sounds weird. It muddies the tone rather than beefs it up. Any chance of adding the Cali Leggy back?

    Reverb "Hold" Playback Volume Level

Try it. It will still degrade over time. It will be fine for a short bit, but if it is used for an ambient wash that will be held for a while, it will lose fidelity. For me, the reverb degrading when held is not as important as the delay not degrading when held. Cliff, any thoughts on the...

It will work fine, just with some limitations: There are two ways to send midi from the axe-fx. Control switches and scene midi blocks. Implemented Larger Max Delay Time

I totally get it! I was bringing it up because if Cliff made it a new block (like the multi-delay or ten-tap delay) rather than a type within the delay block, having a 30 second stereo time and 2 block instances would be more valuable to me than one instance with 60 seconds. (4 instances would...

    Implemented Larger Max Delay Time

Personally, stereo is most important. 30 seconds stereo is enough for me. I would rather be able to have two 30 second stereo delay blocks in a preset than only one 60 second delay block. Both the reverbs and the delays degrade in volume and fidelity when the hold function is engaged. It is how they currently function. Quick and dirty Frippy 16 second loop

Simeon, Thanks for this! This is a great addition to my looping madness! The only thing, is the fact that the delays degrade over time... I will take this as an opportunity to wish again for delays to not degrade: https://forum.fractalaudio.com/threads/why-is-the-reverb-input-mono.164798/
  47. markyd

I think what he said was that if there is diffusion then it will degrade MORE.
  48. markyd

Why is the Reverb input mono?

Cliff, Any more thoughts on this?
  49. markyd

Why is the Reverb input mono?

I guess another thought might be adding "holding delay" type that is very simple... Just as long as it was stereo :).
  50. markyd

Why is the Reverb input mono?

It is very different than a looper for me because with a high feedback value I can get a very lush pad that has lots of repeats in just a few seconds. I can then keep it going with just one footswitch press. By releasing the hold I can let the delay gradually morph into another sound.
  51. markyd

Why is the Reverb input mono?

Yes please!!!!!! I am fine with it! It seems that if people want the modulation, they can set the feedback to 100%, if they don't want the degradation, they can hold it. Thank you Cliff so much for considering it!
  52. markyd

Why is the Reverb input mono?

I use it to add a drone/rhythm in a single guitar soundscape/jam/improv band. I can hold a delay wash for a section of the music, play over it, and then release the hold and the old sound gradually fades away with a new sound gradually replacing it. I then can fade it out and bring it back at a...
  53. markyd

Why is the Reverb input mono?

My external digital delay does not do this. Press the repeat hold, and the delays will be pristine indefinitely. In the AxeFX III it only takes about a minute for it to be noticeable. Samples in this thread: https://forum.fractalaudio.com/threads/delay-hold-degrades.160777/#post-1924845

In the recorded example above, I am not even changing scenes, I am just changing amp channels. I have to disagree with you. 67. markyd

Amp cuts out when changing channels

That is helpful. I did that already, and I found that if I got the preset down to an amp, cab, and one fx block, the gap got down to an acceptable level, but a preset with that few blocks would be useless to me.

Amp cuts out when changing channels

Thanks for checking out my preset. I really appreciate it. I will see if I can rethink the way I make presets to use scene controllers instead of amp channels.
