thoughts on speakers when using the Axe as virtual guitar rig

To survive and thrive without going bonkers in full modeling/simulation land you may well want to create two head-spaces for yourself. Guitarist head-space: This head-space involves using everything you know about traditional guitar rigs. This thinking is only used to build the virtual rig...

    turning away - turning towards

I will be attending seminary for the next four years. To take the utmost advantage of the learning experience I have committed to being on campus year ‘round. I have quit my job and to fit my life into a 12’ x 12’ dorm room I have divested myself of the majority of my possessions. To raise the...

    AxeFx II - feel

I received my AxeFxII from Tone Merchants a few days ago. First I built back my basic patches from scratch. The next day I A/B'd them against my old patches using my friend's Ultra. Yesterday I spent the day fine tuning the new patches without an Ultra around. Things sounded very good. Last...

    Offset Question

On the MFC: Axe-Fx Display Offset = 1 MFC101 Display Offset = 1 ON the Axe II: I/O MIDI Display Offset = 1 When I press button 1 on the MFC I get preset 002 on the Axe. MFC button 2 gives me preset 3, etc. What have I done wrong?

    No function after firmware update

I just updated the MFC firmware. The update was successful. Whether I power on the MFC with the wall wart or through the Axe II via cable the MFC does not respond to any button presses. Button 1 red light is on. "Up" & "Down" lights are green. ???

    The K10

Proviso: Jay was nice enough to test one of my QSC K10s for free. He will not be providing a detailed printed report nor will he be providing graphic data. That wasn't our agreement (and I don't need that information anyway). There are two independent loudspeaker testing facilities in America...

    Global Expression Pedal

(referencing page 54 section 12.4.15 of the MFC manual) My only available MIDI CC# choices for XP1 are "OFF" and the numbers 000-127. How do I set expression pedal 1 to Global (GBL)? I am trying to make XP1 a global master volume control.

Jay Mitchell and the power of flat response

Jay was in Birmingham, AL this weekend. He sat in with me at my house gig Friday and Saturday night. Saturday we got together at my home to go through some patches and also to hear our rigs side by side in a quiet environment. (Regarding our sound experiments: This was not a meeting of equals...

    ADA MXC

A friend of mine just gave me an ADA MXC midi controller that was gathering dust in a closet. He could not find the quad controller. The MXC has two quad control input jacks on the back. It seems from pictures I have found online that the quad unit has four control buttons and one jack. Does...

    FCB 1010 Chop Job

It occurred to me that the biggest things bothering me about my FCB are (were): -the width of the unit both for transporting and in use -the feel and fixed position of the expression pedals So I took out my trusty hacksaw and carved the thing. Steps: 1) Remove back cover (cut large ground...

    Value Dial

    All gone, No more

I have finally sold the last of my old gear. I am having so much fun with my Axe I just have no desire to play through real(?) amps anymore. Even my tube geek analog-head friends are digging this rig. In 38 years of playing I have never been at peace with my sound, especially as it translates...

    Feed Your Inner Geek

It's been about fifteen years since I acquired a Roland VG-8 and started dreaming of life beyond tubes and guitar cabinets. Through fifteen years of modeling evolution, and in some cases de-evolution, I endured, persevered (and kept defaulting to analog solutions). I have only owned the Axe for...

    Sound Advice. Sound Advice?

I have guitar gear ears. I have tuned them that way for a long time. I am knowledgeable about speakers and cabinets only in terms of traditional guitar rigs. In live PA sound land I am mostly technically incompetent. I spend most of my life playing un-mic'd in small venues. When I do play larger...
